  1. I picked up this table for $40 from a local online machine shop auction. It was advertised to have a 2' x 3' steel plate on the end but when I went to go pick it up it was actually a 2" thick cast iron plate with hollows in the bottom. Ended up being about 1" thick in the solid top. the rest of the top looks to be made of two layers of 2" x 24" glue laminated beams. there is only one layer under the plate. I am a little bit disappointed its not a full 2" thick steel plate but I think it is still a nice table for $40.
  2. My engine hoist is one of the most useful tools in my shop. I even bought a 2nd one that folds up so I can lay it in the back of my truck and take it to auctions if they don't have loading assistance available.
  3. A thread on the design & making of the anvil: http://www.bladesmithsforum.com/index.php?showtopic=27056
  4. Check out Steve H's post & video at the end of his "New addition to the family" thread about his Beaudry hammer over at the NWBA forum.
  5. I would break the sharp corners on the top plate. Its no fun getting stuck by a sharp corner when moving around the shop.
  6. Check out www.newenglandblacksmiths.org/power_hammer_info.htm for some info
  7. Welcome! I'm in the Neenah/Menasha area.

    Tongs

There is a shop near me that had a huge set of tongs leaning up against the building as a decoration. If I'm remembering right the smith said they were for holding 14" square. I regret not taking a picture of them when I was there for the auction when he decided to retire last year. What type of steel did you use for yours?
  9. Something happened a while back with the site and a lot of the photos Brian had posted have been lost.
  10. Some members recently reposted some of the images missing from the slitter geometry thread that they had saved before they disappeared from the site. www.iforgeiron.com/topic/10211-slitter-geometry/page-10
  11. Watch out, they might even start trying to break into the garage! As suggested a game camera, marking your valuables and taking pictures o all your stuff are good ideas. Dealing with the local police and justice system in my area often leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Hopefully you'll have better results.
  12. Welcome aboard! I'm up in Neenah. Let me know if your looking for any tools or materials. I have orders from my fiancé to clear out some of the clutter in my garage & shed before I'm allowed to bring home any new clutter.
  13. Maybe a cable drum for winding up a cable?
  14. Running a forge on alcohol sounds like a good way to set yourself on fire & burn down your shop.
  15. I bought a few a month ago off of my local craigslist that had been used to ship food grade coconut oil.
  16. According to TV Guide on my antenna TV it is listed on the 3rd channel public television channel for 8pm tonight and again at 5pm on Sunday (38-3, they call it the Wisconsin channel) I couldn't find it listed on the wtp website though
  17. It could be a jig for pressing things in a hydraulic shop press.
  18. Furnace1 posted pictures of a vise that looks nearly identical earlier this year
  19. You might find some info on the New England Blacksmiths websites "Power Hammer Info" Page
  20. I think he is referring to old world anvils website showing the power hammer tooling they sell
  21. I have a cheap Harbor Freight engine hoist and a heavy wheeled cart I use to move most of the heavy stuff. An engine hoist is at the top of my most useful tool list. If I can't lift it with the hoist there is a local place that will show up with a truck crane for reasonanble $/HR. Last time they sent a 30 ton truck crane! All the neighbors came out to watch. I've been on the hunt for a used 2-4 ton protable gantry crane.
