  1. Seems like most the cold cut saws all list their max capacity for walled tubing and angle. What would be the best option for cutting steel up to around 2" solid round and square? I have a bandsaw, its just a little slow, maybe just need a bigger bandsaw?
  2. Nice tractor! Cant wait to see the line shaft going too.
  3. Looks like they are using the strikers hammers like the one made in this video.
  4. Very cool video, Ive never seen it either, that would be a fun hammer in project.
  5. Ya we will have to get some of those crucibles. Duty cycle is 100%, runs continuous no problem.
  6. Looking good! It will be nice having a work area like that just for smithing.
  7. I use a rawhide when straightening small stuff, should work.
  8. Some crucible videos, melting small amounts of steel just to show the capabilities, we had safety glasses on but in hindsight this was very dangerous without facemasks and protective clothing. We wont be repeating any crucible tests without the proper gear. Thanks.
  9. Here's a long video demonstration of the forge. The beep of the machine is annoying sorry, that is going to be changed for sure. Enjoy! http://youtu.be/HGn8olBjVwQ
  10. I actually thought of that back when i first read this thread, with three phase it should be possible to build a machine to heat that size. Maybe not multiple pieces at once, but the speed of reheating would make up for that.
  11. Having it in my shop is the last testing phase before we start ordering parts and better cases to build a few more units. Videos of pulling some metal apart in the induction forge, just for fun. Flickr album. http://www.flickr.com/photos/josh-campbell/sets/72157630185449586/?page=4
  12. Moved the induction forge to my shop last night, its amazing. I knew it would be better but untill i actually started forging I didnt realize how easy it makes things. I will post some pictures and videos this evening, im at my real job now...blah. One thing i learned was, why forge on a red heat when you're 5 seconds from yellow again! lol Stay tuned
  13. Great knife! You've got some good potential, keep at it. I dont usually even post on "first knife" threads.

    Hammer Tongs

Yes I think increasing the angle will help as well.

    Hammer Tongs

!!!WARNING!!! for this tong design..... I am going to scroll the ends of the jaw back further so that they grip inside the eye of the hammer more like brian b's hammer tongs, the original amount of slope provides an "ok" grip but when hitting the stock with force it tends to slide back towards the pivot point/rivet of the tongs and once it even popped out of the tongs with enough force to fly above my head and to the right about 5ft, red hot hammer to the face coulda ruined the day.... Scrolling the jaws back so that the tip of the jaws go inside the hammer eye will prevent it from sliding backwards and out of the grip of the tongs. I will add pictures when I adjust them.
  16. Looks like you're off to a good start! Enjoy the heat. A good pair of tongs makes a HUGE difference, especially compared to channel locks. Id suggest buying your first pair or two, the universal wolf jaw tongs for 1/4"-3/8" square will work great for a lot of learning projects and can be then used to make some of your own tongs. Square tongs usually hold round stock acceptably as well.
  17. Currently an obsession, later a career, hopefully :)
  18. "getting by" with the anyang 88, haha. I guess thats something with blacksmithing, there is always another awesome toy to make your current awesome toys seem like theyre missing something you need.
  19. Sorry I cant help you with your drive pulley issue, Im sure someone here can though. But we would love to see pictures of your setup, not many DuPonts around, is there a year on it? Where did you find it?
  20. Nice, you could sell it and get 2 slightly used anvils, twice the size too i bet! :)

    Hammer Tongs

Thanks, and yes I think increasing leverage is the idea, mine hold very tight though still and with the little reign clip I made to hold them I dont have to even squeeze with my tong hand, just holding them.
