  1. Couple videos of the new saw. Cutting a 1/8" sliver off of the 1x5" steel plate was so easy, lovin it. http://youtu.be/NKgaiwhI7tE http://youtu.be/J_QJVm_TaNY
  2. A Limited Liability Company (LLC) is a business structure allowed by state statute. Each state may use different regulations. I copied that from the IRS website.
  3. I make things out of metal with my hammer on an anvil and I sell them, its an LLC now and I keep track of my earnings for tax purposes. I'm definitely still new compared to others in the biz, but I own a small blacksmith shop, so call me what you will. Ive been a barber for the past 6 years though, transitioning over to the smithy life, just over a year in and Im loving it!
  4. Alan was saying they were twice the price of others.. looks like they are half the price? 601 series - haltbar M42 93" x 3/4", 6-10 toothpitch is $25? I was planning on getting some lenox blades and they are $50 a piece.
  5. Thanks for the tip, I will check those out.
  6. Thanks for all the input, my 4x6 band saw just wasn't doing what I needed, breaking blades and not cutting straight. I need to re-cut some ends on my 3x4 tubing for my forging press build with this new saw as well, so far the test cuts are coming out extremely straight and its much faster even with the downfeed set real slow. New Grizzly G0561!! Paid for with profits from the shop, its a good feeling.
  7. Its not realy detailed but this site has some of the manuals. http://www.newenglandblacksmiths.org/tn_Bradley%20Upright%20parts%20page4.jpg http://www.newenglandblacksmiths.org/power_hammer_info.htm
  8. Im on it, I'll message you later with it all. I stick my hand in the water bucket on the one in my shop sometimes, I dont think its ever gotten above room temperature. I guess I'll need to get the temp of the fluid just as it exits the coil to know what it actually gets up to.
  9. Sweaty giant Our temps here were opposite, went from 71 yesterday to low 30s today
  10. Pretty rare for something like this to happen obviously, but its pretty nuts, if you watch the video you'll hear what she had in her trunk as the fire marshal explains what happened. http://www.cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_c4#/video/us/2013/01/29/dnt-ma-trunk-remote-car-explosion.wbz
  11. I tried it once.. made a small video of how it went...
  12. Ive seen that anvil in person at the grizzly store here, the face is HUGE, pretty impractical for normal forging. Plus its junk.. I love going into grizzly though, lots of other things i would buy from them.
  13. Took a couple quick vids tonight at my brothers. The new setup is going really well running on 220v single phase, runs smooth at full power without any of the components of the forge heating up much so it can run all day now, you'll see the small cooling setup in the video. It can draw up to about 65 amps, if we had more power available it could be made to draw more, its usually kept at 25-40 amps for now though for testing and stuff. Heating about a 7inch section of a .5inch round bar http://youtu.be/ysPMw20m1UY Heating a 3inch square block, I will upload a better video of this later too, he had already heated it once before I got there but I need to make some tongs to be able to move it once its hot haha.. and something better for it to sit on. http://youtu.be/G32XxLzMMh0
  14. Id like to know of any induction heater specific coolants as well, make sure you post them here.
  15. Any of our forges (other than future 3 phase units possibly) shouldn't need more than 5 or 10 gallons of distilled water and can be kept above freezing with a tank heater in the reservoir or by leaving a pump running to keep it flowing. I have an electric heater in my shop to keep it above freezing in there so I can work. My cooling set up now is a 5 gallon bucket, fountain pump, and a 5"x22" radiator with 4 small fans, I use it a lot and It works perfect for such a simple setup. I don't heat much material thicker than 1" for now, when I start I may need a 2nd or larger radiator.
  16. Very cool. I love his hammer he uses.
  17. If you could get some more power to your shop the 55lb was only $5500 the last time I talked to James, unless its gone up in the last few months. Few hundred more for a lot more hammer.
  18. Greg, yes we have thought about dust and such, not sure how it will be addressed yet. Filters may be possible since there will really not be much cooling needed compared to the machines out there now. Mineral oil is neat, too messy and impractical though.
  19. Not to change the subject.. but does this mean we will get to see some videos of your big Bradley hammer working hard? :)
  20. Call James at anyang, 940.627.4529 I'd go with the anyang, easier to sell later if you wanted to upgrade to something else.
  21. It would spark, about like touching the connectors of jumper cables together that are hooked to a car battery.
  22. Thanks, I check through his thread. Shorting out the coil doesn't have any negative effect really, other than making you jump a little sometimes.
