  1. Great project Sam! So many different and interesting projects on IFI, I really joined to get info on knifemaking but you guys continually surprize and inspire me to expand my horizons. Keep up the good work and keep those photos coming.
  2. Tim that is stunning! I especially like the patterning in the quillion (is that the correct term?). I love the look of the pattern welded blades and I cant wait to be able to have a go at one myself (long way off). Thanks for sharing. Cheers Adam.
  3. Thanks guys, I haven't really had time to put it through its paces yet Rich but hopefully its ok. A friend has asked me to help him prepare some animals in a couple of weeks so I will get a really good feel for the blade and maybe get an idea for design alterations for the next one.
  4. Hi Guys, I have been wanting to have a go at this for years but either lacked the time or the tools. Having a bit of time off recently I thought I would jump in and have a go and surprized myself at how well it turned out. Keep in mind I haven't done any metalwork since high school and that was..... well a few years ago :) I found a trailer parts supply shop just around the corner and bought a single leaf spring for $29 and used some spare bricks and a bbq grill plate to assemble a forge to straighten and anneal the steel. As was recommended in other threads on the forum, I decided to start small for my first project and decided on a hunting style knife. Made a few mistakes with the grinder and the blade ended up a bit shorter than I was aiming for (wanted 6inch ended up 5.2) and the handle fit is a bit off in places but all in all I am very pleased with the result. Cheers Adam.
  5. Jeez, you wouldn't want to get those spoons mixed in with the normal cutlery! :o
  6. Hey Frosty, Thanks for the welcome, I am all for finding beers..... I mean tools. Just updated my profile to show my home town, hopefully other Perthites will make themselves known. I fear this will all become a delightfully addictive pursuit, but we all need our vices right :) Take care Adam.
  7. Hi Guys, Been trolling here for a week or so picking up plenty of good ideas in the process. I have been wanting to have a go at knifemaking for a while but wasnt really sure how to start, when I came across julian60's vid on youtube and have been trolling ever since :) Just completed my first stock removal knife and would like to eventually try my hand at forging (supplies are pretty scarce around here) and related crafts like leather work etc. Looking forward to learning alot from you guys and having plenty of fun in the process! Cheers Adam
