  3. I've been using 20 mule with a bit of boric acid added (Roach Prufe ) Seems to work a bit better than plain borax. Finnr

    Lately I've been playing Duane Eddy while I hammer. Nice twangy old rock. Finnr
  14. Roman spears tended to have split sockets. Being very pragmatic in military matters weapons tended to be produced as cheaply as possible while retaining quality. Bruce Blackstone has a tutorial on spearheads over on Anvilfire that may help. As soon as I snag someone to do pictures while I forge I'm putting together a BP for this site. Finnr

  18. It's A Wilkinson, Queens Dudly England The crossed ovals are the trade,mark , most were six piece wrought iron bodies, and a two or three piece steel face plate. I have one that's a fantastic tool! Like all Mousehole types the horn and heel can be weak spots

  20. I am a member of a society that recreates the Medieval period. I got my big push to doing smithing because I'm too cheap to buy period woodworking tools. Now I do a lot more smithing than wood. Finnr
  21. Smoother the better for my hammers. I treat the handles like I would a fine gunstock. Sand whisker, sand more the oil the living beejeebers out them. Finnr
