  4. thanks for the advice, in hindsight the 8 lbs was a bad idea. i think ill just get another anvil im sure there's one round at the flee market or in tailgating
  5. unfortuanatly no pictures my camera was injured. its a Vulcan 75lbs and in new condition, no idea how old it actually is and id like to think its worth saving. the face doesnt look like it was welded all the way through when it was made, rather it seems to have been brazed just around the outside
  6. ive got a tiny problem with my anvil. the face has come halfway off the body. what happened was i was making a stage prop for my churches play and it was larger than i usually work with so i got my dad to strike for me with an 8lbs sledge and about 5 heats in the weld broke all the way through. Ive welded it a couple of times around the side but it never holds for long. any ideas on how to permanently fix this? thanks, Geof
  7. thanks a bundle graham this will make things a lot simpler. i regret to say that i read this on Sunday witch usually seems to be the case, otherwise i probably would have come down
  8. i suppose i worded this poorly, my apologies. all i needed to know was the definition or the properties of the steel in those states so i can better explain what im talking about.
  9. hello all i read more than i post here so my name doesnt pop up much, but ive got a speech im gonna be giving about the basics of metallurgy specifically dealing with bladesmithing. and its been a wile since ive forgoten all the technical lingo i learned and im having a hard time understanding some of the stuff Ive googled...im rambling long story short id like to know the laymans definitions (or closest thing to em) for bainite ferrite and perlite. anything would help please and thanks geof
