The only horse drawn work I get here is from the local Amish who have a shortage of smiths in this area. The horsey set has several farriers that deal with hooves, something I won't deal with.

A very rough figure would be twenty dollars per hour on things I run fairly quickly plus twice the cost of material. It will often be different , but that's a guideline of sorts.

outer boonies here too, nearest neighbor is over a hundred yards. After that you start talking mileage, LOL . Never hurts to neighborly never know when the neighbor's tractor will be needed to get you out of a mud hole.

inter library loan. get all the books you can lay your hands on read them and then take a whack at your project. It is a good solid way to get needed information.

My best slap hammer ( now used for armour ) is a section of leaf spring with a handle cut into it. I'll see if I can locate it in the black hole ( my basement ) and get a picture.

My Dad was the second of 12 kids growing up on almost no money. He served in WWII and spent his working life as an auto mechanic. He taught me about metal and wood and to duck fast if you had a smart mouth (LOL ). We lost him just four years ago July 20. I sure do miss him.

Ham it up and keep up a steady patter for the folks watching. Just seeing a guy hitting steel gets dull fast for the average person. Story boards are nice too. Anything to educate the public and give them a bit of a show is good.
