December 11, 2025Dec 11 Author Jerry, so in my research this evening I’ve discovered that apparently there is such a thing as re shipping businesses that help you order things in other countries by providing an in country address and then reshipping it to your home country address. apparently you can find some high end ones that will provide tracking numbers and everything. some even offer a buying service where they take care of everything. im sure its all much more expensive than what im after lol. i did find an old discussion from a 2002 post on a woodworking forum about someone who found a wholesale hardware business in Canada that was willing to ship to the states. i followed the link and the business is still alive and well and still carrying the same blades im wanting 23 years later! i plan to contact them tomorrow to see what the process is to buy a few and have them shipped stateside, if they are still willing to mess with it.
December 11, 2025Dec 11 Cool! I knew all you had to do was look at it like finding a small part for an obscure machine. Finding what you need and getting a deal is like a super power of yours. It's handy to know about reseller / shippers if I'm ever looking for something not available for reasonable here. It's a win win. Frosty The Lucky.
December 11, 2025Dec 11 Good Mourning, I have scads of Band-Saw blades from little Saw Mills. Cut whatever length you want, make the mounting holes as you see fit. If you really think you are tough, use an 8"wide blade from a Real Saw Mill. Eating your Wheaties first would be an understatement. Neil
December 11, 2025Dec 11 Have you looked up the closest Timbersports event yet? Just imagine cutting a biscuit off a 8" x 8" timber in around 6 seconds. Hmmmmm? Frosty The Lucky.
December 11, 2025Dec 11 It's the chopping events in Timbersport that really impress me, especially the one with the springboards.
December 11, 2025Dec 11 Me too, I like them all, climbing races and topping are fun to watch and you can see the action from the crowd. Single and double bucking is fast action. Log rolling is good IF you can find a place close enough to see. The lumberjack show at the Ak state fair is performance rather than contest but it's entertaining if you don't watch it too often. I'd like to see a real event in person someday but it's unlikely. <sigh> Frosty The Lucky.
December 12, 2025Dec 12 i have been following this group for many years, all of a sudden, when i click on something, it comes up on the first page ever written on that subject. what do i need to do to have it come up to the current page?
December 12, 2025Dec 12 I don't know what your browser is or how it works but there are options to load "Unread First." So IFI loads all the unread posts at the time I check. There is another setting to "Show newest first" or "last." to arrange how messages in threads shown. I hope that didn't confuse things more. If you'll tell us what device and browser you use I'm sure somebody here uses one too and will be happy to help. Guys? Frosty The Lucky.
December 12, 2025Dec 12 Years ago my then girlfriend and I entered the mixed doubles 2 person crosscut saw contest at the Woochoppers' Jamboree in Encampment, Wyoming. We did OK but the champions by a mile were a guy in his 30s and his mother who was in her 60s.

December 18, 2025Dec 18 I abandon this corner of my yard for gardening purposes due mostly to the poisoned compost I got from our county, but also because of the clumping bamboo I planted to provide privacy from the two-story houses that went in behind our street. I really don't care for people being able to look down into my backyard. I'm thankful for our big lot because everything else being built is packed like sardines. They rape the land, cutting down every single tree, and leave a hellscape of big houses on tiny lots, and the developers have the audacity to name the subdivisions things like "Nature's Cove," which we now refer to as "Denatured Cove." Anyway, I fenced in the corner to give my chickens more room to basically free-range. The dried bamboo on the fence is there to deter any attempts to escape. Next time I trim the bamboo, I'll cut it with this purpose in mind and make it took better.
December 18, 2025Dec 18 Outside the shop but with someone in whose shop I've had some good times, I got together for dinner a couple of days ago with IFI member Latticino when I was in his neck of the woods. Good food, great conversation.
December 25, 2025Dec 25 Uh, "RestauranG FE." What's a restaurang? Hel me iron this out will ya? Merry Christmas Mike! Frosty The Lucky.
December 26, 2025Dec 26 Ah, Swedish so it's not a misspelling. I withdraw my question. Merry Christmas Mike. What's a traditional Christmas Dinner in Sweden? Frosty The Lucky.
December 26, 2025Dec 26 For me it’s fish and chips. This is the second I’ve been in Sweden on Christmas Eve. Both times I failed to book dinner at one of the few restaurants that’s open, and wound up eating at the “English Pub” attached to my hotel. At least at a restaurant though, it’s a big buffet. I had a scaled-back version at a local place last night, and there was a variety of sliced meats, three or four kinds of pickled herring, gravlax, baked salmon, and, of course Jansson’s temptation. One Christmas-specific food is “Christmas ham,” which is cooked, then sliced and grilled with mustard. There’s also a Christmas soft drink called “julmust.” I bought a bottle at a grocery store last time and wanted to add some sugar to cut the sweetness.
December 26, 2025Dec 26 Okay, Sweden is a fishy place to eat. After looking up the dishes you listed above I'd have issues. I've never cared for oily fish. Heck, I'm not a fan of salmon unless it's smoked. Jansson's surprise I could handle but . . .SURPRISE it has halibut or ham, maybe sausage or peperoni in it! Sliced potatoes, onions and cream baked to a golden brown is my kind of food and I'm always experimenting with scalloped potatoes. I'd love to see Sweden someday. <wistful sigh> Frosty The Lucky.
January 3Jan 3 I didint want to open new topic about this but guys can you help me about this decision. Some new smith appeared and he wanted me to show him my shop, he is from my vilage , have problems with back, etc he don't work, and wanted some hobby while he is sick , to see how trade go, i showed him my bellows, forge blower anvil, vise etc. tools. And he commented on how messy was my shop, i agreed but that is not point, later on he told other guy behind my back how his shop is messy but mine is worse. Basicly he backstabbet me, i have book on bellows and i could help him more for sake of trade, but kinda i feel humiliated reaching out to him to show him something more. I feel like my dignity is a bit shaken, but on other hand i want to share knowledge. How you would react, probably i would give him this book about bellows to read , but i feel like iam humiliating myself more by helping me on this path.
January 4Jan 4 You're a good guy Nat, of course you want to help people. You certainly don't deserve to be insulted publicly. This could just be another example of Denning Kruger effect, the less a person knows the more expert they think they are. He might turn out to be a good guy and and good student. If on the other hand you think he's just a butt hole, put him to the test and tell him you'd love to help but your shop is too messy. If he wants to learn the craft his first job is learning where everything goes by cleaning and putting everything where it goes then sweeping and taking the trash to where you dump it. We have dumpsters companies either empty or exchange regularly or when called. If he goes to work he's probably sincere about learning and worth taking on. If he snivels, whines or complains about it, show him the door. Anybody who enjoys humiliating others has problems you don't need around. Frosty The Lucky.
January 4Jan 4 Well I won't reach him how to forge just guide him in craft how to set up shop either way
January 4Jan 4 You feel humiliated and stabbed in the back just because he said your shop was messy? Maybe you need to thicken your skin a little?
January 4Jan 4 Saying someone’s shop is messy to their face is one thing. Pointing out a flaw behind someone’s back to another individual unrelated to the visit is another. I would personally have nothing more to do with that person.
