September 24, 20241 yr Nice score John, but bummer on them closing. I've had a couple old sources for things close. That's a cute little anvil ShoreB.
September 24, 20241 yr Another good score today: from FB Marketplace, a nearly new Harbor Freight throatless shear for $40. I had thought of getting one of these from HF with a 25% off coupon they just sent me, but discovered that it’s been discontinued. The previous owner just replaced this one with a Beverly, but I suspect he would have gotten better use out of it if he had installed the handle the right way around.
September 25, 20241 yr By the way, the chunk of wood in the top of the picture with the shear is a ~3' length of 4" x 4" (in some as-yet-unidentified softwood) that will become the heads of some wooden mallets. I picked it up in the parking lot at HGR, as partial compensation for the distress over the place closing.

September 27, 20241 yr Hello! I have been followed by an anvil that will be the main anvil in the shop from now on: Cheers!
September 27, 20241 yr I’m very jealous! That’s exactly what’s on my wish list… Enjoy it. Nice shop also! Keep it fun, David
September 27, 20241 yr Oh thank you Julian, the first post I open today and I'm hit with a serious case of anvil envy! She's a beauty in a nice shop. Compact but well laid out, it wouldn't take me long to feel right at home working there. Frosty The Lucky.
September 27, 20241 yr A pair of these just arrived in the mail and are now charging. I've been happy with their other earbuds, apart from the tendency of their connecting wires to break. Hopefully this will fix that problem.
September 27, 20241 yr Are they Bluetooth so I can listen to audio books while doing noisy stuff? Frosty The Lucky.
September 27, 20241 yr Yup! This is the version I had before: The connection between the thick parts of the cord and the thin cords to the earpieces had a tendency to break, otherwise I was quite happy with them. As for audiobooks, I just finished “Blue Highways” by William Least Heat-Moon and “Dead Wake” by Erik Larsen, both of which were excellent. The latter in particular is a thoroughly researched history of the sinking of the “Lusitania”, which was good enough to listen to twice.
September 28, 20241 yr I like my Bose, noise canceling wireless headphones but there are a lot of places headphones are just in the way and or HOT. If they block sound well enough buds would be nice. I'm going to have to download one of, "William Least Heat-Moon's" books I'd never heard of him till a few minutes ago. Wiki makes him sound worth checking out. I like the part that says he's "allegedly part Osage." I'm allegedly part Modoc. Frosty The Lucky.
September 30, 20241 yr I bought a small pile of stuff at a yard sale around the corner from me which included these two "clamps". They are massive and I think may have been made as some kind of specialized press of some kind, especially the one with the square threads as the part opposite the screw is machined out as if to accept some particular object. I thought I should have them considering their low cost of a few dollars but are really two big for anything I might clamp - maybe a bench mounted press of some kind perhaps. Both are stuck and I need to free the screws up if I am going to use them as intended otherwise they may end up as part of some sculptural assemblage. That is a 6" rule in the picture so you can get an idea of how big they are.
September 30, 20241 yr Those look like they'd be good for some kind of tooling setup that you REALLY don't want to move once it's in place, like a temporary mounting for a Hossfeld bender. 25 minutes ago, Gazz said: Both are stuck and I need to free the screws up I just posted yesterday about a formula for a homemade Evaporust alternative; if you decide to give that a try, let us know how it works.
September 30, 20241 yr I have watched that guy before but forget what he was talking about. I will give his formula a try.
October 1, 20241 yr On 9/27/2024 at 6:17 PM, gewoon ik said: Nice workshop. Milling machine as well? Hello! Sorry for the late reply, had to prepare a lot of stuff for this week of school... No milling machine, but a large drill press. I think I'll present some pictures of the shop in an extra topic. Cheers! Julian
October 1, 20241 yr No problem, we all have lifes outside this forum. Look forwards to the pictures of the workshop
October 1, 20241 yr 4 springs. 2 coilsprings from an ami car 2 leafsprings from an italian car. Got them from a buddy who has an oldtimer repair shop. No idea what to do with the thin leafsprings.
October 2, 20241 yr Thin leaf springs make good knives and garden tools. My mentor made his Ozark garden hoe out of old buggy springs and I duplicate them in his honor out of leaf springs. His original on the left and my replica on the right. Debi made this adz and knife from a thin leaf spring. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s.~ Semper Paratus
