I think you should clean up the shoulders of the blade and the mushrooming on the punch before you do.

Anything I can do to make a softwood stump more rugged for use as an anvil stand?
I agree with frosty. You will be hitting hot metal on the anvil, not beating the stump.

Problem with lighting burners on new Forge
When it does light, what color is the flame? Is the flame blowing off the burner? I can't help with this but that might be helpful information to others.

Burners 101
The Mr. Heater filters we sell have male on 1 side on female on the other and they are the same thread as disposable 1lb cylinders. Search disposable propane bottle adapters, there is an assortment. The big black end thats fits on a 20lb tank is QCC. Disposable x QCC adapter or disposable x POL for 100lb. There are some adapters that are disposable x 1/4 MPTwhich I believe would get you into a regulator. ( atleast the regs I'm familiar with) I believe I also saw some hoses that were QCC on 1 end and the filter on the other.

Thinking to purchase a new anvil-So many options....
If you going to beat it up with cold work why not go with something like a cast steel anvil from Vevor. There alot cheaper.

What did you do in the shop today?
Search printable sticker paper, also just an idea I have seen others do. You could print on regular paper and cut out as mentioned, then use spray adhesive to stick it to the surface to be etched.
