July 11, 200817 yr Author Use your 2 pound hammer and ring the anvil 3 times, calling for the striker. (grin)
July 11, 200817 yr Oh, that reduction gearbox looks real smart. It is going to become indispensable as soon as you build the rest of the whatchamacallit.
July 11, 200817 yr I don't think that box turtle makes good soup, you need cooter for that or snapper.:D
July 14, 200817 yr I picked up a hand crank bench grinder at the flea market on the way home from our trip yesterday. Its missing the handle but I `am going make one and the it needs a new wheel. July 16, 200817 yr What on earth do you do, as a blacksmith, with a 20# hammer? lol, taking a hint from Frosty and apprentice man Im building an oliver, I scored 90 percent of what I need for my plans from that haul and most likely have the other junk laying around the house...
July 16, 200817 yr belt lacer. Needs a little tender loving care, set of handles and a centerwire. Nice score, whatsitdo?
July 16, 200817 yr It is for lacing leather and fabric belts for flat belt applications. Hit'n'miss engines, antique tractors, shop machinery, trip hammers, etc. It gives an even squeeze to the alligator clips.
July 16, 200817 yr belt lacer. Needs a little tender loving care, set of handles and a centerwire. Neat! Father had one to repair or make up flat belts for some of his shop machinery. It only got used it every few years but was pretty indespensible when he needed it. He let me pull the handles down after I got large enough to do it right. Even pressure on both sides and hard enough to compress the flat belt master link thingies properly. Frosty
July 16, 200817 yr I usually have CNC punch machine dies follow me on occasions. The become too short from repeated sharpening. I get them and take them to iron-n-the hat for use as fly press tooling or for use in hydraulic presses for punches.
July 16, 200817 yr I need to get a belt lacer to redo the leather belts on my forge blowers. Both demo forges run off of belts.
July 17, 200817 yr civilwarblacksmith.... Lacers sometimes show up at farm auctions... It's been a while since I seen one in an auction though. They were going for around 40 bucks. The lacing can be bought at Tractor Supply Co (TSC).
