August 13, 201312 yr I thought of a newton's cradle but cast iron doesn't have the snap of hardened steel...
August 13, 201312 yr Hmm I could build a counter ballance system and store my 515# Fisher up near the ceiling when not in use; perhaps you wouldn't mind standing on this red X when you visit?

August 14, 201312 yr It's a Fisher not an Acme (sold by Sears, some were HB's as I recall) you would be totally safe---until you said "beep beep"
August 14, 201312 yr if I remember right, The road runner would stand on the X, than say Beep Beep and be gone in a puff of dust. and than the Coyote would come over and look up, wondering where the Anvil was at which time it would land on him. So, Sure, I'll be your road runner. lol. Beep Beep.

August 19, 201312 yr i was helping to clear brush around a building and came across this drill it was rusted solid but i had my hopes up that i could be reselected and an afternoon of oil and heat and she is free my hope is to be able to use this as a pore mans magnetic drill press until i come across one i can afford you can clamp it to a work surface and dill in any direction as well it has a high and a low speed over all this seems very simple and yet versatile tool this is a Millers Falls co no 1
August 19, 201312 yr Greetings Big Red, That's a slick one... I have several but not that model... I think that one you can clamp to a flat plate and use it like a cordless mag drill... Just like the Cole drill... Great find Forge on and make beautiful things Jim
August 20, 201312 yr i have had no luck finding any info about it on line but i will keep poking around i find it kind of interesting the way the gearing is set up so you can use it a "high" speed drill with the handle to the side and as a low speed ratcheting drill from the top
August 20, 201312 yr I had to go into town today to buy some screws for my old truck and thought I might check out the scrap yard for anything interesting while in there. I couldn't get near the pile at first as the yardman was running the big magnet thingy moving stuff around but he finally finished up and I was able to get a look. In the pile was the partial contents of somebodies tool boxes as well as some other good stuff. About 220 pounds of it! The yard snagged me for $55 and I think I got a great deal. It's hard to make out but there is a kerosene or carbide type lamp for an old car or carriage in there - unfortunately the red lens is broken. The red tool box in the background has more little stuff in it as well. The smaller vise is a Columbian, two different types of valve spring compressors, two jack stands, a lifetime supply of cold chisels and punch tools, large drill bits and some fine thread taps of uncommon sizes. Also included was a tin of UMC central fire primers which were actually percussion caps. I didn't take pictures of the domed tank ends that were also included. A good haul!
August 20, 201312 yr Some days are like that, spent US$2.40 one Saturday at the scrap yard and $133 there the next Saturday and was happy both times!
August 20, 201312 yr It's been a while since I have posted, I have moved from NY to Kalamazoo Michigan, and while building my new shop, I put in 2 isolation pads in the slab, One for my tire hammer and one extra, just in case a hammer I could not pass up came along. Well I call my tire hammer big red, now he has a little brother from Steve at Matchless Antiques. He loaded it for me and off it went, it took everything my tractor had to get it in the new shop, but now it resides in its place of honor. Soon to be bolted down on a rubber pad. I figure my new shop should be up and stocked by thanksgiving.
August 20, 201312 yr Nice score Mike. Kalamazoo eh? I married a UPer so maybe a face to face is in the card one of these days. Frosty The Lucky.
August 20, 201312 yr Beautiful hammer, Mike. I had the chance to transfer to Michigan not too long ago, and one of the reasons I didn't was the proximity to Matchless Antiques! There's no way I could be that close and not spend too much of my paychecks with them.
September 1, 201312 yr hmmm, not sure if this fits the category as I had a friend stop by and give me these things, early Christmas presents! Anyway he and I served in the Marines together, he wanted to stop by and watch me make something, knew I needed a motor for the belt grinder I'm building, and that I'd been making knives from old files. It's a 2 hp motor 3450 rpm, can be wired for either 110 or 220. He stayed awhile and I forged this letter opener out of one of the files to give him as a thank you. I still need to finish it, but here it is in progress.
