September 13, 201411 yr What to do with a bunch of old timing gears from an aircraft maintenance workshop. Weld them together and stick a mining hose coupling and a pair of ball bearings on, and you have an echidna.Would make a hefty door stop!
September 13, 201411 yr Put a little larger head on it call it a Hedge Hog aka Porcupine. It is cute, nicely done
September 13, 201411 yr great work mate. I like the clean shiny finish . Im sure you will get a buyer for that (if u can part with it)
September 13, 201411 yr Author great work mate. I like the clean shiny finish . Im sure you will get a buyer for that (if u can part with it) Thanks for the comments and g'day Andrew. I'll probably keep that one, but I usually make two if I can. (And as you would know, you never make two exactly the same.) The other one, a little smaller is pictured below.
September 14, 201411 yr I love it! It's a prime example of why you are on my must read list. That little stack of gears has more personality that some people I know. Frosty The Lucky.
September 17, 201411 yr Play fair, there are more than aircraft timing gears in there, I spotted pushbike and motorbike chain cogs as well. I spent plenty of time putting those engines together so I recognise some of them as cam drive gears and idler/transfer gears, and the face of the little one is a pump or generator drive gear. Very inventive use of what would otherwise be scapped so congratulations. How much are you selling them for?

But most of them are from aircraft engines - Continental I think, given to me by a local LAME during his workshop clearup. I have a heap of pistons, valves and springs, camshafts, plugs and other stuff. A lot of components he had were heavily plated and I'm not keen on welding that stuff. And I don't know what I would sell them for. Probably about $50. I'll keep one for my collection of junk art and probably give the other away.
