wyck
Can anyone tell me about the history of the forge in the attached photos? Seems like a mysterious topic from what I've read thus far. Surely someone out there knows when this was made and for whom. Extra point for a link to documentation (tech manuals, etc). Thank you. SpankySmith
I don't know anything about it at all except that it is VERY cool. I love it. Where did you even find it?
wyck
An antique store. It may end up in a museum shortly, but until they get back to me, i have it listed for sale @ $700.
ThomasPowers
should be a totally enclosed box, it's missing something or has been modified to have those gaps along the sides.
Steve Sells
look like a US army cavalry forge
SpankySmith
I vote for the museum, it would be almost a shame to sell that to someone to use - it should be preserved.
wyck
Thomas, you're right. The only other one I've seen is at http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=281416043300&alt=web and it has solid sides. With as little use as its gotten, I'm curious as to who would have done it or why unless it was to get long stock closer to the coals. I wish i could find documentation on it. Randy Bill
I definitely agree it's VERY cool! And I'd be VERY firm on your asking price. Or just keep it and use it responsibly. My take on museums: they have enough.
ThomasPowers
I've seen a dozen or so in various conditions. Even had a friend get a NOS navel version one for near nothing. It had an electric blower than ran on some weird voltage that was available on navel vessels. He used a hand crank blower and just piped it to where the electric blower would have gone. Faber
I....NEED.....ONE! I wonder if anyone could make some fabrication plans, it would be a fun project. Coolest thing I've seen yet.
matto
The last one I looked at was a champion.
Kal
I believe Steve is correct in saying it's a calvary forge. I've seen one other like it but it was pretty pably rusted.

David Einhorn
I did a bit of cleaning up of the image so that I could see it better. What I see is a six-leg forge that was drawn in 1945, likely a later forge, and one that is different from your forge, and also one that I have never seen before. Very interesting but much different than your forge.
natkova
It sounds like that forge is from time when was WW2. For what they use that kind forge. They won't smith swords, i guess fire weapon.
