VaughnT
If there's one thing this thread has taught me, it's that I need to buy more Fisher anvils! You just can't have too many....

I totally agree. Although I cannot master using more than one at a time. I will be compiling all of the stats at the end of the year and reporting on the results. Keep the information coming please. njanvilman
225# dated 1942 in great shape picked up this summer for $250 225 lb size is one of the rarer sizes that Fisher made. Most people ordered a 200 or 250. And most of the anvils made in 1942 were made for the US Government. Although a few were released to civilians; with permission of the government. firefarm39
100 #er, dated 1908, purchased at a farm auction for $50 (I think). It was half buried in mud at the time.
Direwolf
Here is a very early 50 LB anvil I picked from an old barn years ago, I would guess this dates from the first years of production. No Fisher name but an Eagle raised in relief in a circle. On the front under the horn is a raised

The first years(1847 to 1859) had no Eagle or name. Some had Fisher & Norris, Trenton, NJ stamped in along the top edge, many did not. Thanks for sharing your photos. George Geist
150# bought in NJ in early 1980's for $100. Got it from an old man who said it had belonged to his late brother. Supposedly was bought new sometime in the late '70s and never used. Still has stenciling on top and a Fisher and Norris sticker on the side. May need to have you take a look at it sometime but have always been under the impression that I may have gotten one of the last ones they made. Direwolf
Thank you for the date information! Before the year ends I'll try to post a few pics of a couple of 20th century Fishers I don't know what year they are from either
Direwolf
Here are two more modern anvils, not sure of the date as neither is marked with a date, but judging by the style I would think they are later in the production. First two pics are an unmarked 120 LB, only mark is the 12 on the foot for the weight. Second two pics are a 100 LB has a eagle on the side, a 1 on the foot for weight and a raised 5 under the horn. Not sure of dates of manufacture of either. Hope this is of some help. Have a happy productive new year!
VaughnT
Beautiful anvils, Dire. I've never seen a Fisher with the number on the bottom of the horn before. Seems like an odd placement.
utaholdiron
Stamped into the anvil on the side opposite the Fisher logo, "FISHER & NORRIS", "259", and "CAST STEEL". There is also what looks like the letter "E" lying on it's back, cast into the anvil just above the foot, on the one short side. I was unable to find a date on the anvil. That is a nice looking FISHER sawmaker's anvil. From the logo, I would date it to the 1870's. The "259" should be the weight. Thanks for sharing.
