September 25, 201213 yr ten hammers - absolutley right :) born too late - i understand what a burr is, but what particular significance were you meaning? ... thanks for answering that old post! :)
September 25, 201213 yr Author now this is an interesting picture since we are posting pics! Geesh, he is almost as handsome as ME!
September 25, 201213 yr Yet I don't think there would be too many that wouldn't consider Samuel Yellin to be a master. The picture that macbruce posted show him using a thumbs down grip. Both Stewart's teacher and Yellin were masters yet seemed to advocate different grips. Who's correct? I think Beth is...
September 25, 201213 yr Author here is a VERY INTERESTING video of Mark Aspery........................6:59 into the video, check out his hand position! He varies his grip, using both positions!
September 25, 201213 yr Ok Stu, I'll try it!............It won't be easy for an Old Dog but I'll give it a go. Btw, my hammer had is holding the camera so I believe I'm on correct side of the anvil???......... :D

September 25, 201213 yr mac thats incredible!!!! thats how we do it - im going to do exactly the same thing. i even have some tape like that..... :) such a fabulous technique..
September 25, 201213 yr Mac...Are you left handed ?.......then yes, correct side  I'm not THAT easy Lar, Stuart just wore me down..... ...... I will use whatever approach I please tyvm and I'm not taping my knees to the base for anybody's ''right side''...... :P
September 26, 201213 yr Just funnin' ya .....Hey man, I was the ''Class Clown'' no worries......... B)
September 26, 201213 yr Bruce, you used the right kind of tape but the wrong color, thumb tape should only be red. I'm not even going to talk about what's wrong with that hammer but if you glue a rubber bumper to the back it'll bounce off your forehead better for improved striking efficiency.
September 27, 201213 yr Looks like Roys thumb is on the side to me, never seen anyone blow on the hot metal as if your going to eat it LOL
September 27, 201213 yr Author he is whistling, not blowing...............prolly "happy trails to you"
September 27, 201213 yr he is going in for a kiss. Which stuart knows is the right way to do it. and roy has his anvil the 'wrong' way....... Lol
September 27, 201213 yr I hope that's not the photo Stuart seen that made him kiss the hot metal and burn his lip.

Jud,I was going to use a hose clamp to capture my thumb but could we please keep the comments within the realm of objectivity (no colors) otherwise it could get kinda muddy and not reach the definitive conclusion the devoted followers (and the ones that can't keep from clicking on it) so desperatly need........Ahem..... What you think of my prized butt ugly 20oz double face mutant hammer that Slim Spurling (mentor) bequeathed to me on his death is none of my business..... -_- .....Rubber bumper eh? Well it could have possibilities, and then I wouldn't get any hammermarks on my head.........''The point of this is HAMMERMARKS''............ :P
September 27, 201213 yr Looks like the guy demoing in front of the kids, has his thumb on top so he won't cut it off on the hardy tool,,,:)
October 2, 201213 yr Now that is a curious way to handle a sledgehammer! (I hope I'm not opening another can of worms here! :))
