  1. nice work every one on saterday i got some time in the shop and tested my quench process with 1095 and parks 50 forged 2 or 3 heats then heated to an orange-yellow and quenched in shop temp oil after it cooled i did a file test and a sharp file barly bit. then a break test showed what i believe to be very course grain no temper on this piece wondering if I should do some thermal cycling on the next try? thanks M.J.Lampert
  2. if you dont end up getting the lights to turn off, the easiest is to hide a night switch in your main powerline this prevents any draw to to battery this also prevents unwanted use of the machine...
  3. I love old machines if i was closer i would love to help work on those at my work we just got a rock crusher patented in 1943 and made in 1974 they didn't change the design the entire time. The best part though is that the powerhouse is a early 50s d8 cat motor with a two cylinder pup motor will try to get photos sometime M.J.Lampert
  4. yes it is ITC-100 on the site I buy from ( Canadian Forge and Farrier Supplies) it is listed as 5000* refractory coating
  5. finished up a bick for my anvil to work on rings and bottle openers out of a 1in tie rod, and got to learn my press better afterwards I was going to do a leaf ring but the leaf broke off so i made a different design on the fly thinking i need to make the scrolls smaller as i think they would catch on things M.J.Lampert
  6. the problems began when they quit showing the down votes so you could see if the video was decent or not

  14. hit an auction and came away with a nice haul, under 400$ Canadian. some for the shop some for elsewhere. 100lb Trenton(275$) , 2 screwdriver sets, old cb radio, inverter and some other stuff (2.50$) , a almost brand-new farriers kit (40$), box of wrenches (15$) and a set of jumper cables(2.50$). few other things i should have bid more on but this was good for my first auction. M.J.Lampert P.S. will de a deeper thread on the anvil after I look it over for markings

  16. true frosty meeting all the folks from here would leave no time for sightseeing or spending to much time in the shop
  17. now that I'm older I want to go back to Thailand and experience that again (was 2 and 4 last times) or do a trip around Australia a trip to the Israel would be neat but all require one thing I don't have, a steady bank account
  18. vulpine forge is that a folder ? also what did you use for handle material
  19. went to a historic park for school and just about cried at all the wrought iron they had sitting around, there had a wagon there that had all the hardware but was rusting away and the wood was rotten. or the number of WI wagon wheels just sitting around it made me sad same with the fact that they blunted all the knives and axes and deactivated priceless firearms in almost as new conditions worst thing though, there was no smithy set up there
  20. thomas can you please re-share the rasple snake pics or a link to them thank

  23. check it I have heard of that some of those models are not actually what the numbers say
  24. try using some notebook paper inside light the paper then turn on the burner if i take to long to long to light my T-burner i get a large amount of propane vapor in the air and this can cause a loud sound as it ignites. I have no experience with forced air or ribbon burners but it might light easier if you reduce air flow ?? others who know more will probably come by and provide a better opinion but that gives you a start point M.J.Lampert
  25. not sure how i missed that yes i agree that needs fixed
