  1. I'd love to, Frosty. Maybe in a different life. Love to watch those dogs. I swear, they love every stride.
  2. I swear, Frosty, I spent my youth in the wrong part of our country.
  3. Ah-h-h-h-h, "blunt" impaling. Not a pleasant thing, to say the least. I'd rather be impaled with a pick.
  4. Arthur, that really looks clean....................but an "ear-less" horse?????
  5. Thanks, CGL. Hope to catch up to you in hammer control someday. You've been turning out some mighty nice forgings.
  6. Pulled the casting from the mold this morning and pulled all the straws out of it so it could soak in water for a week. Gettin' excited to have a forge here are the house.
  7. Never been afraid to expose my ignorance concerning a subject I don't know about. I make enough mistakes even WITH all the help you guys freely give me!
  8. Thanks, Frosty. Then I won't have to "distance" my static mixer any further from the burner than it is. WHEW! One less thing to obsess about. When my ribbon burner cures, I'll be ready to get going.
  9. But can you tell me if you could lay your hand on the back of the burner without being burned?
  10. Can anyone who has a forced air ribbon burner on their forge tell me how hot the back of it..........the connection to the incoming piping of air and propane gets?
  11. Well, much like the useless fretting I did over casting the KOL30 in my forge, (which turned out to be a total "piece of cake") I've put off the casting of my ribbon burner for the same reason. Next to connecting all the pieces of my 2" air and propane piping to the forge, I'm finished building my forge. I cast the ribbon burner today and it took right at an hour...........start to finish. Easy Peasy! Can't really believe I fretted over it for so long. It's got something like (I've actually forgotten how many now) 179 1/8" straws for the holes. This is a forced air burner, so the size of the holes won't be a problem. Started asking questions about building a forge in May of 2019 and am sliding into "home" 10 months later. Took too long in my opinion, but I spent an unusual amount of time and effort doing what I do best, which is being OCDC. I don't want to do anything half-heartily and mess it up. Besides, I "needed" to put in all of the fretting and procrastination time for good measure. Many people have told me differently, but this is my last forge, if I can help it. (bet I take a lot of ribbing over that one!) I've never liked doing things over or having to buy/make better because I didn't do it the right way the first time. We'll see if I accomplished that this time. If it doesn't blow up and level my shop, I'll try and post a video when I get it up and running.
  12. GMoore, Springs are "mystery" steel. Good knife making steel is really the least expensive thing on the list of materials to make a knife. Leaf springs can make a good knife...........and would be fine "if" you knew exactly what material they are so you could follow proper heat treating instructions. You'll be kind of hit and miss if you don't have that information. That said, leaf springs can make a good knife.
  13. Long list: Steak flipper, steak fork, coal rake, spatula, spoon (another), bottle or can openers, book markers, letter openers, wall hooks, cabinet door hardware, tent stakes, candle holders, miner's spike candle holder, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc...........................................
  14. Er, Uh, I didn't mean.............................oops! Where's the foot-in-mouth emoji, Frosty? Sorry about that Gustav, I meant no offense.
  15. BONANZA!!!!!! Talk about material to practice on. Good for you.
  16. Stubby little bugger.............but I like it. Only critique I'd offer (and it's a tiny one) is I'd have taken the blade to an 800 grit and then come back with a 3-M pad to smooth up the lines on the blade. Other than that, I think it's really unique. Nicely done.
  17. Nice job. That's a project on my list, for sure.
  18. Amen, Thomas! This entire thing is stupid. Won't say more...........I've already been "warned".
  19. Soap and water is as effective as commercial hand sanitizers. Water wells are better than bottled water anyway. (deleted my last sentence because it might be misconstrued as "political" rather than public news)
  20. I'll keep her in my prayers and pray she does, indeed, understand.
  21. Call her and tell her, Chellie.
