  1. Not today but last weekend. I did a bunch of other stuff in a 2 hour and a 4 hour seedion at my gasser including heat treating a coil spring knife and finishing one of Kens quick tongs. Lots of fun with the RR spike :-)
  2. Yeah. What is that stand? Anvil looks nice too
  3. Thanks Mr. Powers I like the foot switch idea. I watched a couple vids this morning re fire management and I am anxious to replace the switch and try again i will try water to control. I wss being cautious due to fear of cracking the pot
  4. I lit my first fire in my new to me coal forge and found 2 main things: 1. This thing is a beast! Even at the slowest speed and the air gate mostly closed my fire seemed huge. I had choked down the fire pan in my rivet forge with fire bricks and was used to a small fire. Turn it up a bit and and its out of control. 2. I have no idea what im doing. I think I had a huge hollow in the middle after ahile and I then I broke the knob off the the reostat switch and the plastic shaft. We did have some fun and I found that it indeed made a nice table for the propane forge. I will have to study a bit and try again after I replace the switch. It fits nice in the forge and im going to get some vent pipe and elbows and exhaust out the back My 11 year old, half hearted striker :-)
  5. Total impulse buy. Told the Mrs. I needed a new table for my propane forge. :-) $600 followed home a new friend
  6. “Property corner”. Haha. I love it because I am a land surveyor! gate post...hmmmm
  7. 3.5’+, 80+ lbs, supposedly Studebaker. I was thinking vise or grinder stand maybe mail box post or???
  8. Heres mine. Mostly practicing posting eith my phone. Salude!
  9. Came home early and bent a couple hooks. First attempt at a ball end. Need practice but I like it. Lots of fun to try
  10. Sweet anvil. Love the horn. is the hardy hole curved and will you need new tooling?
  11. Looks good. I will build a ribbon burner for my next one.. I havent burned any coal for 6 month after building the propane forge . The gasser is just quicker and easier to fire up Have a nice vaycay - 6 months off? You must really bust your back fot the 6 youre on!
  12. I have a mathewson burner in my air tank forge and it works well. However the volume is small at about 225 ci. It has 2" wool and at least 1/2" of cast o lite, I use soft fire brick for a back door and I made a front door out of left over cast o lite. I have only tried to forge weld once and I couldnt get it up to temp but I was running out of fuel and didnt try very hard. My forge works very good for what I do and I get about 10 hours on a 5gal tank I think a propane tank may be too big for just one of those burners. I could be very wrong tho as im a noob :-)
  13. Looks to be in great shape. $3 a pound would be a good price around here. Have fun!
  14. Made a hook from a piece of 1/2" rebar the other day and holy smokes was it hard. I have forged springs that wernt as hard to move.
  15. Nice score for $40. I have the very same one and thought I stole it at $150. its a good anvil but I know its limitations. I have a 100 lbs chunk of steel that I use for bigger hammers and/or harder hits. You must have a really nice one because doesnt ring at all, which I find a good thing.
  16. Thanks Aus, Yes they are the native Velvet mesquite with an old, sad palo verde in between that I hope to rejuvenate with the roof run off and a tree well. I took a long while to plan the maximun shade with minimum tree trimming and only took off two major branches It is 12 feet under cover and 9ish feet betweet posts. Still plenty hot in the afternoon but it is shady and I stay hydrated :-) PS ...already wish it were bigger :-(
  17. Thanks fellas, Its about 100 feet off the street with some desert in between, only a small window and you would have to be looking for it, blends in real nice. Only people walking are neighbors. We live jn a tight community on the edge of open desert and we look out for each other Added bonus - cool place to hang and drink beer when not forging !
  18. Just curious, do these saw tuners anvils make good blacksmith anvils? Are the the same construction and hardness etc. Thanks in advance
  19. I have been forging a little over a year under a couple small trees in the hot Arizoma desert. A couple months ago I decieded to get some shade this is during construction but you can see there is not much shade but it worked well over the winter and spring.... fast forfard a couple weekends and , Viola! Shady shade. I tried to keep as much of the trees as I could in the hopes that one day the entire structure will be under the trees. Backside which is really the street side but you can barely see it from the street needless to say I love it Thanks for looking
  20. Thanks DuE. I have heard of that but dont see them listed on line. I will go in and ask Plumbers source has the #165 for $1080 delivered, I imagine Homedepot will want MSRP plus tax but I will find out
