  1. I prefer bituminous but get no coal. when I'm asked to give a piece out or two I give Anthrocite since it is harder and less desirable to me. given a choice, Give me coke.
  2. LOL Farmall. I'll see what I can find out as I disassemble the spreader. never know it might be stamped somewhere.
  3. I have no idea BigGun. I could figure that old John Deere plow could be wanted to a collector. Neighbor was going to scrap it. I could hold off on gutting that one and see if a collector would be interested but the spreader has no name and is mostly rotted out. Lots of John Deere people around here. Could try cl. Could be worth a lot to me if it produces a needed part. I work with shapes mainly. The name isn't AS important but can sometimes sell the art.
  4. Now that's a scary thought and a miracle for your friend. Yeah it is a pretty gnarly piece of equipment and has beautiful And scary parts. I can't wait to get time to pick it apart.
  5. The manure spreader and plow that I had bought followed me home last night. some great parts on them.
  6. No big stuff till I get a heavier duty welder but yeah. They have lots of great parts. The spreader is pure rust so nature cleaned it over all the years it sat
  7. Excellent CT. Lots of great pieces there. I'll be awaiting to see what your imagination makes out of it. I know I see all kinds of fun in there. My neighbor dropped off my manure spreader and plow today. Unfortunately it's dark so I'll have to enjoy it checking them out more tomorrow.
  8. Thank you Jeremy. Other then looks I didn't know that not having it as smooth of a chisel line could affect the twisting. I will also dress up the chisel I used to soften the edges a bit so the start and stop are softer, then I'll use your advice and go back over the lines. Mainly the kinking on this was me fidgeting with the wrong tools trying to twist in different areas "trying" to keep it as even as I could.
  9. Thanks for the ideas Frosty. I'll try some different techniques and see what works best for me. Yeah an induction forge would be nice but I have other tool needs first. Thanks Aus. The whole time I was thinking of making a unicorn sculpture . Another day...
  10. Frosty, it was an attempt on Gillettes slogan but I failed. CT so that's where all those came from. I have only ever found a couple nicer old ones and sold them to people who wanted them as is. yup, I shave once a week or if I need to. No frosty, not my legs lol
  11. Frosty, They fought me. Honestly I would have liked them a lil more even but I do like them. funny enough I got the better twist on the first one. I'm going to have to research more if I need to do any more of these. One idea I had was to make several sized tapered square holes in a twisting bar (small to large) to use them to build up and work at a more even twist. more research will tell if there is a better idea already out there.
  12. Come on! Gillette over it! You dont always have to best the man, you get?
  13. Awesome. Glad you are getting stuff sold to feed your addiction
  14. A friend asked me to make a couple unicorn horn keychains. He chose the size.
  15. Very nice CT! That has a great flow and feel to it. Pleasing to the eye in my opinion.
  16. Aus, I need an aircraft mechanic friend! haha awesome work.
  17. it's what Australians call a hen/ chicken.
  18. They look functional. Have you tested them? Aside from that, the more you make the more you will improve. Maybe experiment with hammer texturing. I think they need a little something to stand out. I can see the improvement from what I'd guess in an earlier one on the left in the third picture. As far as a finish there are a couple threads discussing that. For things like bottle openers I use a mixture of bees wax, boiled linseed oil and turpentine. Applied while Basically just too hot to hold but if it smokes the wax it's too hot. There are other finishes as well.
  19. Ausfire there is a lot more to be picked through over there. He still has a few large piles and several smashed up cars. I'll be excited to get the old manure spreader and plow. The chooks I already had.
  20. I cant imagine any more "good" info then you got. so you've been burned by melting aluminum? ( from what I see that is your experience) ugh. ok. hey I'm a nobody from the outside looking in with the trust in the people warning you. If they say you would save money and misery buying known steel they are right. if you were ready to work molten steel I would think you would have done the research to know ALL of what you need by now. all I am saying is you keep blowing off guys with way more experience than you that are trying to tell you some facts. after that I only "hope" you are successful and dont wind up in intensive care. some people do get lucky throughout life. no offense intended and good luck.
  21. Hey, not a bad profile. Yeah geometry of an edge would probably help from what I see but everyone starts somewhere and if you put it to use that's great. From what I see some more thinning grind would help at the edge but hey, I'm far from even knowing what I'm doing with blades lol. I just like that you got use out of it. It's all about starting somewhere and learning more.
  22. Very nice! be fun to explain the water closet to some youngsters. Neat that you went with an old style flush system. and a newspaper? I can see you are appealing to an older crowd haha
  23. Cut a door and weld a hinge to one side and a lock bracket to the other.
  24. Great little piggy. Nope, I haven't made one Great idea Thomas.
  25. I heated it up a bit ( dull red) to bend it. Not sure if more heat would loosen it up much more. But it's a great suggestion. CT, thanks. Aus and his work have been and continue to be very inspirational and helpful to me and I'm honored if I can pass that along.
