  1. Snakes look great, nice scrolling . Good work on the first couple projects!
  2. Depth of the pot? I'd guess 3 inches. Looks like a usable setup. I think you'd be happier with a flapper on the ash dump rather then a screw on cap. I fought with the cap too long before I changed to a weighted flapper on it and wonder why I didn't switch years ago. You'll also want a cutout on the table to pass longer stick through. I use a 2" deep rotor for smaller stock and have a 3" deep pot for larger stock. Both about 8" diameter. Burning bituminous coal. They work fine for me so it looks like that should work. I welded up the lug holes in mine but you could possibly use bolts and nuts to plug them. If it's just used outdoors I'm not sure if it would be an issue or not. And I don't know how the grill grate will hold up but it might work. Tho it might be a pain to pick out clinker. For that I welded in a piece of 3/16 plate with holes. Here's what I use. Works for me and yours didn't look much different. After 3 years I still like mine
  3. It's a little hard to tell scale from the pictures. What is the tuyere pipe size? What is the inner diameter and depth of the drum? Where is the air inlet?
  4. A friend at work that bought a couple all thread snakes asked for a spider to go inbetween the snakes he put on an end table. I decided to try out a glow in the dark paint on it. if he dosnt like it it can be wire wheeled off and clear coated. ( didnt realize it would get a light shade of yellow green but hey, it's an experiment and he is a friend) also another bigger spider that still needs it's legs bent (ran out of Acetylene. ugh), and a cross I started saturday and finished up tonight.
  5. Joel, Great work, Beautiful gate and great video. Thanks for sharing. It is very inspiring even if I'm still not trying to do gates just yet. keep up the awesome work.
  6. Lol. You're not losing it. You are creative and imaginative. Who else would see that in some scrap? Even if it was an accident or abstract. It's wonderful art. I dig it you are on it. Let your muse speak to you. Let your heart pour out in your work. Don't ask why. Let your vision through.
  7. No problem. Just pm me if you will be in the area.
  8. Welcome aboard Steve. There are a bunch of good threads on hammer technique and posture that would be good to read over to save on putting excess strain on your back while forging. I have learned a good bit and am finding that I hurt less. happy hammering
  9. Charles you, yours and many others are in my thoughts and prayers as well. Don't let the moon drive your madness, to me it's just a beautiful light in the sky and when it's full and bright it lights my path from the garage back to the house. The beauty that nature provides is something that calms me. Thomas, I get news from several internet sources and radio, and take it all with a grain of salt anymore. A some years back I was letting the media stress me out with their coverage of things. It added more stress and fear on top of all the issues I already have and had. I was a mess. Slowly I have been working towards not letting them instill fear into me. this election season is a lot easier when you look at, and listen to everything with more neutral thinking and not ready to believe anything without full understanding. Fear is a horrible thing and it seems they work it into stories all the time because it sells. It's like a drug. I have enough problems without them adding more. That was a large step forward when I quit letting them get to me as much.
  10. I don't think there is a wrong way. I prefer them with the longer part of the head down as well. Guess I always make them that way so no one has a choice but if the other way sells better then make more of what sells.
  11. I disconnected from television years ago. When I say so they ask " so you don't have a tv?" I tell them I have a nice TV I just very rarely use it to watch a movie. I wasted too many years glued to the TV. And I still don't have enough time in a day.
  12. I don't think I could own an anvil and not use it.
  13. So right Charles. we had a Bday party for my niece today and it went well. I think it would be better if we shut off the TV. guess I'm the only guy in my family that isnt distracted by sports. I can feel the hands of support on my back and the wisdom echoing in my mind. The long hard road is ahead.
  14. With all the drums and stuff, it's be like welding yourself into a corner instead of painting yourself into a corner. I have alot going on but I do like a challenge.
  15. yeah those will win the day, and also hopefully get them thinking a little. In that respect it's good for them to see how things progress. That the hand forged stuff dosnt just pop out all finished and shiny. That takes more work and effort.
  16. Spoons and forks can be fun. Have to keep an eye on them once parts start to get thin. Sometimes there is just not enough time in a forge day to do all you wanted to. Nice job.
  17. I'm running a lot of possibilities through my head with no matches. I don't know
  18. I've been there with stuff like that haha. Maybe some very careful work with a cutoff wheel ? Or it's now a feature. Its one of those quick burning upside down candles.
  19. Aus that is absolutely beautiful to my eyes. The filling of the space is great. Love it! Mine suggestion would be a flat clear coat as it is and then put a glass top on it. The patina is nice and tho it wouldn't ruin it to clean it up, I think it would take a little bit away from the look.
  20. Awesome! That ones is going into my inspiration folder Love it.
  21. Well done and beautiful work. Awesome that your daughter is learning and proficient as well. You are deffinately forging more then steel.
