  2. for getting it out if you were close to me i would show you how i use my muscles instead of my brain and just pick it up out of there and have ihave done this before and i wounder whymy back hurts every now and then or just like every one said get help or even a tree branch thats big and hanging out fare enough and use comelong chain hoist
  3. did some say you could eat off those machines
  4. well theres a few ways to do what you want i have some wireing diagrames of making a rotory phase converter which is basicaly what your doing if you interested in seeing them pm me with a email address and i'll send them to you theres several different types of ways to wire it i made a 18 hp phase converter i think when you run the motor on 1 phase its only 2/3 of the rated hp not sure though it is less
  5. well it is for what ever you can use it for now that you have it one other thing i see you chisels there are mushroomed over i would grind them down if you had one of those break off and fly into your hand you would understand my concern
  6. i would go with all of the above me personaly i like an old pieace of oak or stump
  7. as for the post drill its hard to tell if its allthere with out a pic of the other side but look at whats there looks as if the crank handle is missing and the down feed arm and pieaces are not there its a arm with a hinged little arm that pushes the top down feed wheel around and screws the shaft down i'm sure theres proper names for the pieces but i don't know them i have one thats in great condition but never use it
  8. i guess i'm lucking in jersey to be able bait the deer but than again its jersey and its more like you can bait the dear for hunting but there probably a law that says you can't feed the deer so that way you are allways roung
  9. i googled the name and this i what i found they that reprint it Plough Book Sales: Canedy-Otto Mfg. blacksmith tool catalog, Forges, Blowers, Drills
  10. if you wanted to do hardfaceing i have been told hardfaceing mig wire is a lot cheaper then useing stick welding rods i have used it and it goes alot faster then welding rods but you need a base hardfaceing wire pass first and for the life of me i can't find the wire info at the moment
  11. first anvil i got was from my father so it was free for me its only 35 years old it came from centural forge made in sweden that last one is a peter wright 140 pounds onthe scale 100 off craigs list but i guess the real question on true price is what is some willing to pay for it i've seen them on craigs list for a lot of money that was crazy
  12. well thats sounds go if it was hear i would just keep doing that untill dear season and then i would have steaks and here baitting is legal so it would all be good
  13. i've seen worse and have and use worse i have a lincoln buzz box that went through a flood not much left of the metal but the coil is still good welds great for ac as for the plug on it on 220 you have 2 positives 110 wires and 1 common wire(most 220 plugs don't use a ground)it is possible that some one added a ground to it i worked at a body shop years ago and there mig was wired with a ground it confused me at first
  14. one you need a heavyer plate that would rest across the channel looks as if there was to much pressure on the middle of the thin plate between the channel and those welds are cold welds need to run the welder hotter or slower and i would streighten the channel pieace and weld a plate on the bottom also for suport to help stopit from spreading again i would get either bigger pins or a long grade 8 bolt or some type of pin stock that is hardend you would need atleast a 3/4 plate for the center or bigger you need to spread the weight of the press out over the channel
  15. i would say there not wrought iron the ones i have come across in jersey were cast iron and there is a difference between the two like when people say they have a wrought iron railing on there house it usally plain steel
  16. well i'm right there with you on buying equitment nakedanvil but not on that scale though i started years ago with a buzz box and dads forge and anvil and have bought many things over the years now i have a small machine shop set up and small forge and everything i have has made me money especialy now when i need to fall back on something or anything to make ends meet .when the word gets around you have this or that people seak you out to do things and its cash and for the people who don't understand they probably never will understand
  17. thats a nice find for that price i would leave it alone and just use it i have seen a lot worse still in use
  18. sink looks to nice to make a forg out of would look beter in my counter
  19. picked up this peter wright for 100 bucks yesturday from craigs list it weighs 140 on the scale
  20. the magnet trick is not allways right it depends on the grade of stainless i worked in a header shop and we had stainless that a magnet would stick to or some what would can't remember the grade though
  21. well i'm lucky i got dads anvil when he moved but have seen many listed on craigs list here but like welder19 said a lot have been scraped around here i got a post vice that came out of and old barn that was at a junkyard that they told me had alot of blacksmith stuff and some one else got the anvil and the rest was so buried in the pile i couldn,t seen the rest i find the word of mouth finds a lot of things and it doesn't hurt to ask
  22. welcome abored there billtwild fromthe shore
  23. my first forge was a old propane tank that i cut the top off of (and i know how to do it safe and don't recomend any one to do it for safty sake ) i cut the hole out to about 21/2" to fit the end of a tee in it and welded it in there then welded round stock across it for the tuyer and its still working with no clay or refractory
  24. it looks like one of the ones i have its made from a propane tank cut about the same way but yours looks nicer
