i'm cheap when it comes to buying anvils and i would pay that for it so i would say it s a good deal

die making
well how much you got to spend depends on how you would do it you could pay a tool and die maker or you could get some good steel and cut ,grind ,machine it into the blocks of steel to you get the shape you want just remember that its a mirror image in the die wether or not this is the right way it has worked for me in the past when i had to forge a large quantiy of old military parts for a place i worked at some time ago

need help starting forge
a 7 foot long forge what are you try to forge that you need a forge that long any way if you had a pic of it it may help it sounds to me like you built a forge like the comercial ones out there the one we had back in shop were like (about 4 foot long though)that they were gas and the burnners came in the sides and the top didn't sit on top of it it was on a piviot and sat a few inches above the forge walls and could swing the topaway if needed

yup its a dividing head looks like a kearny&trecher but then again its hard to say for shore

glenn i just seen the anvil on ebay and for a buy it now of $165 thought maybe a newbe or some one in that area may interested as that cheap in my opion if it was closer to me i would add it to my stuff (not that i need another one )

$30 anvil
it don't look to beat up to me looks just fine to me unless maybe your making sords or knives and if its to beat for you i'll give you my address and i'll put it to good use :)

How old is this Fisher?
to me age don't matter its a tool and should be used as one not hung on a wall or for decoration thats my opinion but then again opinions are butts every one has one

It followed me home
picked of a 7/8 punch and some good files and a few ball peens and a wedge or chisel that will become something else in the future all for 15 bucks the punch was 5 and the rest was 10

where to find anvils
tell every one i mean every one you talk to you never know what maybe sitting in a shed, out buliding ,garage , and so on

the one i bought had the year in it they made them up untill i think 70s but i'm shore the njanvilman will be along soon and as he has a fisher museum he would know best

Railroad track Anvil question
first welcome aboard and you can drill through the flange with out to much of a problem the hardes part of the rail is the top

cutting a used oxygen cylinder
i have cut a few years ago make sure its empty and remove the valve and cut were you want it and they are tough i would recomend a good bandsaw or chopsaw i used a ksaw with a metal blade that cut like butter

thanks for the update unicorn im glad to here they got there first choice i'm still send my prayers for a speedy recovery and can't waint for him to get back up and running i feel lost on here with out his posts :(

hillbilly i hear ya on the dust i bet if i pulled my drill out i would fill the shop vac a few times cleaning it thats the real reason i asked if anyone used them as i was under the steps and seen it there colecting dust

i have been wundering how many people who have post drills really use them i have had one in the family long before i was born and i used it when i was a kid just really messing around and for the last 25 years its been stored under the steps not being used . dad thought it was funny letting me try to drill a hole with it when the cam dog was not engaged :mad:
