  1. I just paid $350 for these two in NE Ohio this past weekend, however you want to slice the price 150# Trenton 130# Hay Budden
  2. Thanks all. The Trenton just rocks a little, I have no intentions of modifying the face. My buddy can mill the bottom at work, I'll talk to him about doing it for me. Here's my Trio.. The Henry just needs paint stripped from the previous owner. The side of the Trenton was hit with a scotch-brite by the guy I got it off of to expose some pretty extensive stamping from the original owner. Both the HB and Trenton have much larger faces than the PW which is why I am elaning towards keeping them. The HB is very quiet compared to the other two which I really like but I would rather make the heaviest my primary.. I'm going to post these in the Anvil prices thread but forgured I'd show them here as well.
  3. He wanted $400 for it, after researching I thought it was steep even if in better condition. The Trenton and HB are both in better condition than the Peter Wright, even though the Wright is in great shape. I'm probably going to hang onto both of them and sell the PW to pay for the 2 new ones. I gave him $350 for both and they are great. I can probably get close to that for the PW on eBay. Only problem is the Trenton must have had a rusty bottom at one point because it's a little uneven, any suggestions on the best fix for that? I tried searching but didn't find much, maybe just didn't use the right terminology..
  4. Thanks for the info, I passed on the bridge. I did pick up a couple of beautiful anvil's from him though.. 150# Trenton and a 130# Hay Budden, now I don't know which to keep, one of these or my 120# Peter Wright.. not a bad problem to have I guess..
  5. I have a chance to get this bridge anvil, the guy said it was 300# but I did not try to pick it up. Looks like it may have been customized for a specific job, or is this a normal configuration to see? The split sections in the top look deliberate to me.. what do you think? Anyone have a guage on what these are going for these days? Not even any recent sales on eBay to go by.. I would probably be selling it to fund the purchase of a larger anvil for my shop, so I want to be sure the price is decent. Thanks!
  6. Thanks again for all of the info. orgtwister, Thanks a lot, I'd like to see what you have - you can email me at: chad@pirtleranch.com In the end I think I am just going to buy a phase converter. I found this one on eBay for $75, they have excellent feedback and for my needs running at 2hp will still be overkill. In the end I will have a heck of a nice motor setup for $85.
  7. Good, I like learning my lessons cheap I have a few other spare motors, I'll probably just scrap this one. Thanks for the info guys.
  8. Long story but a few years ago I picked up a Baldor ISR motor at a local auction for $10. It's a 3hp, 3 phase, looks brand new. I am thinking about setting up to do some grinding or buffing if possible, so today I called Baldor for info. Turns out this is a motor they supply exclusively to Everett Industries (which oddly enough is one town over from me) and from researching their site they use it in a 10" wet abrasive saw, so I am off to a good start.. Before I make a fool of myself calling them and trying to explain why I have a motor from one of their $3000 cutoff saws, can anyone help me out with wiring this bad boy? I believe it can be setup to run on 220, but don't want to guess and screw something up. Thanks
  9. Good to know, I thought I read that they started welding on a hardened plate at some point, was probably another brand.
  10. Just bought this Peter Wright on eBay. Had to drive close to 4 hours each way to get it in Canada today, but I think I got a good deal Need to get the red paint off though.. Can anyone tell me when it was made? I don't think it has a hardened face, but you all probably know better than I do. ETA: Have not really tested rebound yet but she sings like a bell. Purchased: 8-20-9 Price: $99 Weight: 133 #
  11. Thanks again everyone, I appreciate all of the continued ideas. I need to find time to get to the scrap yard and buy a few supplies. I noticed my thread was moved to "tools" (I'm still finding my way around) and a stumbled on THIS thread which has also given me a ton of ideas. Mainly along the lines of what Charlotte suggested. arftist, Broadheadgarret have these in their catalog for just over $1700 combined, I know they can be had cheaper but luckily I didn't need to look around (I wasn't even looking for them, I set out to get a new anvil that day). They have signs of use but I think I can get past that ;)
  12. Thanks for all of the advice and I have updated my profile. I figured S7 might be overkill but the price was right at $1.50 a pound. ThomasPowers, what I had envisioned was along the lines of what you are describing, only smaller. I would like a small and thick work surface that would also double for holding these stakes. The only stake holder I found on eBay was about $80 + shipping and did not look very robust. I would be interested in seeing others if anyone knows of them. I'll give my local supplier a ring and see what they have for options, in the mean time if anyone local to me has something I may be interested.
  13. Hi all, I'm new here and it looks like this site will become one of my favorite hang-outs. Figured I'd start out by getting a bit of advice.. A couple of weeks ago at a yard sale I picked up a 4 piece set of Roper Whitney/Pexto forming stakes. I got them all for next to nothing ($75) but now I want to put together a dedicated bench plate for them. Picture attached are the stakes and my tractor has a 48" bucket to give you an idea of size. I found a good price on a thick piece of S7 that's 6" x 10" x 2" for $53.. I've never worked with S7 - would it be a good choice for supporting these big stakes and occasional hammering on it as a backup to my anvil? Should I harden it or leave it annealed? If there is a better steel to look for I am open to suggestions. Thanks!
