  1. my problems are these 1)i bearly have time to smith i don't want to use up what little time i have 2)i've never even seen one 3)i would like it to not blow up when i fire it up! if someone in florida area could build one i'de be willing to pay
  2. i live in sarasota, fl is there anyone that lives nearby i can maybe watch do some forging to see what all im doing wrong?
  3. thats what im thinking im doing wrong i lift rock for a living and a light hit for me is probably a heavy hit for many
  4. all right this is agravating*** ******!!! i'm trying to forge weld, im getting a good heat i beleive, clean with wire brush then flux and beat and they just seperate every time what am i screwing up now
  5. The problem here is that its not just a customer you can get rid of when your done, its a female, and his wife. Which means her mind will change a dozen times before SHE realizes what she is thinking, let alone him, and then will probably change a few more times before hes done making them. I understand i'm married as well. I'm sorry, and good luck, and I can't wait to see the final product.:D
  6. once and a while even a cast iron one
  7. i install countertops and we throw away probably 20 -30 stainless steel sinks per week so try a few granite shops
  8. allright what do you all think i know most of the heat is blown upwards so would sheet metal work for the firepot?
  9. allright i tried the vac its a small vac 1/4 hp handheld one and it was defintitly the problem with the vac i accidently melted the steel but it was deffinetly hot enough
  10. i have 3 commercial heat guns (really big hot hair dryers) you think those would be to powerful ?
  11. right before i light it up its blowing air through the coal no problem but i think ill hook my small shop vac to it (in reverse of coarse) and see if that helps
  12. i don't know if that brake drum will hold 8' safley but what the xxxx right. :D
  13. all right ill try some more holes but how deep should the coke pile be? right now im piling it about 4" deep.
  14. alright i keep trying but i'm having problems i'm still new to this but i read a lot first lets start with the forge: it's a standard brake drum style 3" depth 12-14 inches in diameter i have a bathroom vent fan as a blower ( it was free) its about the same pressure as a hairdryer im using a blend of coke and hardwood charcoal (charcoal on the bottom seams to increase the heat a bit)i've tried just charcoal and just coke but the blend seems to be about the best now i have a color chart and i seem to be getting the heat to about 1600-1700 degrees (nice red color) but cant seem to get the yellow or higher what am i doing wrong?
  15. hi all im new to smithing but have wanted to try it for years i'm just bout done with a small coal forge which i have put $7.50 into making so far and i'm ready to start as soon as i find a piece of scrap steel to work
