  2. well i keep seeing everyone making small ones so heres the biggest i have made so fare it made from 7/8 stock its for my pop to hang in his new house out in Arkansas the bigger you make them the more of a pain in the butt it is to twist them and for cutting them i think the next big one i do i'm going to clamp it in the mill and use the slitting sawas it was a pain trying to keep the saw straight for the long of a cut
  3. i'm not an expert but i'm think its cast and its not really big i would say a 100 pounds is on the light side for anvils
  4. if i was makeing this and was going to leave the side plates straight i would get thick wall tubing for the spacers and i would bore the holes so the spacers would go through the side plates and then weld them to the side plates and also weld gusets from the spacers to the side plates for more suport .now if i was making it and hadn't allready drilled holes i would fab the hole thing from pieces so there was no spacers and welded the off set in it like to arms that are flush with the boom to a plate that was wide enough to meet with the wider plates off the auger then guset it for more stregth
  5. bigcity i don't know how big the molds you can get are but i have seen them from small to like a thousand pounds the big ones could be nice anvil steel and also the ejector pins in the molds should be h13 also as they maybe a nice size for punches
  6. i made this big twisted cross for dad for christmass as he doesn't have any thing i have made
  7. we call that here you idiot you cut it short as i have worked with some helpers that say they know what they were doing and still cut it 1/2 short

  9. frosty glad to see you back . around here no one wants a horizonal mill so they go for next to nothing or scrap this guy just wanted it ou of his way when i handed him the hundred he didn't want to take it but as he threw in the tooling and a nice lyon cabinet i made him take it he got rid of this to make room for a harbor frieght mill&drill and said the tooling don't fit well i wasn't going to argue with him as he made it clear the he new more then i would ever know so i guess 30 bucks for r8 arbor wasn't worth it for him
  10. there is gs tongs i think he maybe a member here GS Blacksmith Tongs i don't have any of his but they look good
  11. thanks for that link unicorn its in a working state as it is but i think it may have ran off a line shaft at one time but a previouse owner had modified a car tranny on top of it insteed of the upper cone pully and its missing the power gearbox for the table feed it will be the winter project as i'm allmost done with my logan so as soon as thats done i'll start looking for the missing parts to put it back to as close to new as i can get it

  14. nice video there but the anvil's got a xxxx of a ring to here
  15. well it would all depened on what it is going to be for now the right way would be cut pipe square bevel the edge space it tack it in many places then a root pass (as this is not to warp it with less heat) then the fillet weld then cap it with 7018 now if its not a big deal cut it square take a 1/8 welding rod nock the flux off bend it into a v and space the pipe with the rod then tack the pipe all the way around many spots on the plate this lets the pipe expand and contract when welding at least thats what i was taught in welding school and the pipe fitters

  24. now why would you quit day dreaming isn't that how you come up with ideas to make or do things
  25. i don't think your idea of forgeing a die around your proto type would work asmost dies i see and made are bigger than what you end product is so forgeing a round them i think would just transfer heat to to your proto type and deform it the dies that i made were made out of 2x3 steel blocks i used a 4 inch grinder a die grinder (with good us made cutters and stones no china)and a welder to give you some idea of dies if you check hofi's blue prints he made a die for forgeing balls on shaft for a gate or something like that out steel real simple (to me anyway)heres the blue print number BP1042 Forging 1-1/4 inch ball
