Great Loss
I had been working on a cable knife for my best frined who was the best man at my wedding and my greatest frined since 6th grade, and he passed away yesterday. this is a great loss to me because he helped me through my parents divorce and i practically lived at his house for a year. He will be severely missed

sorry i meant billet when i said ingot. sometimes the words don't come out so easily. status: 1.5 inch cable successfully welded into 1 inch rod

forge welded cable
I have finally made my piece of cable from many small pieces into one large ingot so to speak, i was wondering if fluxing with borax could cause corrosion later on down the line. Should i soak it in a bath of some sort of cleaning agent or something?

Burns..
Chalk another one up to inattentiveness had just adjusted the tongs to fit the piece i was working, and while the reins were cool the jaws had just been red hot a minute ago. i set them down, and when i picked them up i slid my hand up the reins toward the jaws to the sound and smell of burning flesh.

craftsman ratchet
Ok. Thank you very much. I'll think of some other metal. In another project, I'm making another knife from about 100 year old buggy springs. This metal seems to be very tough. I should have known about the wrenches being built for toughness rather than hardness.

craftsman ratchet
oh the craftsman is broken ( i know i know i can go back and get a good one), but i thought that the steel would be good quality

craftsman ratchet
i've been mulling this idea around in my head for a little, i tried to look on here for any ideas, but couldn't seem to find anything. i'm thinking of making a knife from an old craftsman ratchet i have. I realize the fumes will probably be toxic, but i was wondering if anyone had done this. Or had any ideas with the process...thanks _eric_ also a while back i asked for some cable. to great dismay i have lost the address and name of the person who shipped it to me in my move. i am terribly sorry and would like to pay that person back plus some, if that person reads this please PM me

Vasco Wear
Excellent question i was wondering the same thing. i have the same book. but i probably wouldn't work with it, i don't have than much experience with high alloy steels. p.s. i read the drizzt books too

i've been looking for half inch to any size bigger but have found nothing, the bigger the better inch and a half would be great.
