  1. My ax, hammer, tomahawk drift came in the mail today from Iron Mountain Forge. Hope to give it a try tomorrow.
  2. PB Blaster you can fine it at most hardware stores. Works great, used it on my Post Drill, spray it on everyday and let it set. Took 3 days to free up the parts but worked. I have used it for year, only bad thing is it smells bad make sure you use it outside.
  3. Copiercer, That is a nice looking anvil stand. Like the big wheels for moving it around.
  4. Look's great, added the top knife to my list of things to make.
  5. I have been researching a plasma cutter for myself. Here is the one on the top of my list. Here is the reasons I like it. http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-plasma-cutter.html (1) In my price range for new. (2) Re-placement tips (cutter nozzles) are cheap. I think 10 for $20.00 some tips can cost $10 - $20 each (3) 3 year warranty (4) Can work on 220v and 110v (5) Has a lot of positive reviews You need an air compressor with this plasma cutter. The cost to have a build in compressor on a plasma is a lot more money. I also like the Longgevity Forcecut 40D but the tips are expensive and the warranty is only 1 year. http://www.longevity-inc.com/plasma-cutters/forcecut-40d
  6. I had a lot of fun, weather was great. Learned a lot this year. Picked up a few items, a small Swage block for spoons, 2 8 lbs sludge hammers I have already converted one into a forward weight hammer it's about 5 lbs after cutting it. But the purchase of the weekend was the feed advance for my Buffalo Forge #152 Post Drill. :D
  7. I have not heard of this brand but I would check the gear box, it would be the hardest part to replace.
  8. Hope to make it by noon Friday. Looking forward to the demonstration.
  9. Here is a post drill in my area (Port Sanilac) CL, might see if they will sell you the table. Post Drill parts are hard to fine. CL link removed
  10. Harbor Freight has good Link belts cheap. http://www.harborfreight.com/vibration-free-link-belt-43771.html
  11. You might check with http://www.alro.com/ they sell drops
  12. Anvilstream, I hope it doesn't ring like a bell when it rains out.
  13. Nice, I like the raw hide adds a lot to the handle.
  14. What bandsaw blade brand have you had luck with. I pick up a 4x6 Buffalo bandsaw about a week ago. After a few hours of tuning it cuts straight. I'm using an Olson blade and it's working great for 1/4 steel tubing, Cost is a little high but not to bad. Here is a great video on tuning up a 4x6 band saw.
  15. 8" contact wheel for a belt grinder I think, 2 arbor press, 5 small vise Wilton and Craftsman brand, 200+ steel washers, vise grips and 16 rolls of packing tape all for $20.00 It was a good lunch.
  16. I would pick up a copy of the Backyard Blacksmith, by Lorelei Sims great book for beginners, I have used it a lot. Has projects for all skill level. If you can make it to Quadstate it would be a great experience. They have a beginners hands on open forge. Learned a lot from the event. http://sofablacksmiths.org/quadstate/quadstate2014.html
  17. Once a month I go over machine tables and anything else made out of metal with SC Johnson Paste Wax. I like the smooth surface it gives my wood working machine tables. I also use it on hammers and hand planes and other tools. It's not good for long term storage, but cleaner then oil.
  18. I was going to have a friend stick weld it. But I don't think it's going anyplace soon.
  19. Update Pick up some mild steel and gave the Froe another try. Turned out good, was filling the edge last night. Still have to make a handle, clean it up and coat it with something, thinking boiled linseed oil.
  20. Is it located on Oak Island in Michigan? http://beforeitsnews.com/paranormal/2014/01/the-oak-island-mystery-2463134.html
  21. Have a Buffalo Forge #152 Post Drill with I think the original drill chuck. Picked up a Jacobs chuck at a garage sale and was going to install it on the drill press. The problem I'm having is getting the old drill chuck shaft out. I took out the set screw, now the shaft just spins freely, so I don't think its a morse taper or threaded almost feels like a bearing is around it. With the drill press being cast I don't want to hammer on it. How do you remove the shaft.
  22. I used the controller that was on the treadmill it was small enough to get into the black box. Except for the transformer. Have a RPM chart on the front dial so I can gauge speed. Looking for a MC-60 controller for my grinder project. I have a 2 hp Blador DC motor from a high end hospital treadmill. Have a list I found on the internet with all the modals of treadmills that have the MC-60 controller. Will try to fine the link and post. Here is a good example of a MC-60 for a lathe. http://lumberjocks.com/MMuntz/blog/26340
