What is the best cable for making cable damascus ?
any "over head" type cable. such as crane cable, elevator cable, and i believe cable chokers (i don't recall the composition of cable chokers right off hand) pretty much any of those that aren't galvanized. and make sure they are clean on the inside, some cables have a plastic strip on the inside.

chainsaw chain knife almost done
with the idea of the chain for a handle( make sure the chain is clean and grease free ) you could try to rap the chain around the tang then wrap with a plastic bag or a mold of some type like a toilet paper card board or such. set up a rig to clamp the knife standing on end (pointy end up) fill mold or bag or what ever with epoxy resin or some type of resin ( i would have to read up on the different types of resin to find which is better) you could agitate as you put the resin in to help fill the voids. let set over night. take the mold off then sand to rough shape, and i would paint a couple of light coats till i got to the final shape that i wanted. try to sand to a high grit like 300. each additional coat should fill in sand marks if there fine enough.(marks should fill in anyway i had some that did not in the past on different types of projects and now i sand as high a grit as i can get.)

blacksmiths knife with Hamon
First off, Nice knife i kind of like the look and feel of the blacksmiths knives. Second take a sheet of paper and hold it over the flash bulb of your camera, it dulls or diffuses it enough for a good picture. Here are a few things i found with the search on that subject. http://www.iforgeiron.com/forum/f14/two-knives-14164/ http://www.iforgeiron.com/forum/f7/photographs-8466/ That search button is a very useful tool, I've taken a liking to it. :)

Hidden tang knife w/antler handle
Heat treat before you put the handle on of course. Put the knife together, drilling holes for pins. Then for stainless I would send out for heat treatment. I don't know or experimented enough with stainless to talk you through it. I don't want to offend or make you feel dumb by saying this, I felt i needed to be stated. And post pics, either of the process or finish product. The old saying: "pictures are worth a thousand words".

Hidden tang knife w/antler handle
This is a Iowa white tail horn that a friend gave me 5 years ago. All i did was drill out the antler to accept the tang then drilled through for some brass brazing rod i had. then used 30 min 2 part epoxy, trying to fill all voids with out making a mess. and i haven't put anything on the antler as a finish. Looking at it now i guess i should put somthing on it.
