  1. It looks a little worse than a "slightly used lathe" as the discription says. If all the pieces and parts are there it may be a decent restoration project for 300 bucks.
  2. You were right, I didn't know what the NGA was, now I do. Welcome to iforgeiron.
  3. You could use an ac drive like this FM50-203-C 1 phase in 3 phase out, variable frequency output give you variable speed. I use one on my lathe only it's rated a 1 hp instead of 3hp.
  4. On some hair dryers the motor is in series with the heating element (the current flowing throught the motor must also go throught the element).
  5. You're right, its hard to make identical multiples without some kind of jig.
  6. You may be able to form the initial shape on a pipe. Then heat the lower portion of the spiral and pull while twisting it to close or tighten up the spiral at the lower end.
  7. You can find it online here. The Blacksmith's Craft
  8. Welcome to iforgeiron.
  9. It all makes sense now, in your original post you wrote forge but meant press. Anyway, I agree with orgtwister on the solution.
  10. Liquid resins are forced into the pores of the wood/horn under high pressure. When the resins cure the wood/horn is stable and resistant to moisture.
  11. Some pictures please, that may help us to better understand the problem.
  12. For the forge a large free flowing flue is best. If you combine the two you may have creosote buildup problems from the woodstove venting into a too large flue. If you are building a masonry chimney you could use two flues running separately all the way to the top in one chimney , one large for the forge and one small for the woodstove; otherwise keep them separate.
  13. All sash weights I've seen have been cast iron, high silicon high carbon brittle cast iron. Can't forge it.
  14. Usually I go with 2 to 3 inches above anvil top, although I could see where a taller one would be handy at cleaning up long splits from the end.
  15. Thanks for the positive response. I don't think I can sell this one, it's a keeper.
  16. Surely you are not refering to the teller of tall tales about stop signs and rocks from a few months ago ?
  17. Anytime I try forging wood it always burns before I get it hot enough. What am I doing wrong ?
  18. If it is like most, a piece of flat bar with a wood handle, you may have more luck trying to make one than finding a replacement.
  19. I assume you mean a sheet metal roller. Here is a link to one .Sheet Metal Slip Roll Machine You may be able to scale it up to the size you need.
  20. Here is my latest project. It's an upgrade from my homemade trammel points. It's 17" long and forged from 3/8" square stock. The fine adjust knob makes it easy to fine tune some really big circles.
