  2. i have used one for the past year and i finaily got a 3/4 inch ball valve and it works great for me in my forge
  3. i just soak the handles in straight antifreze they will rarely come lose again and its almoast impossable to remove a broken handle with out drilling it out
  4. they will work well if brine quenched and super quench works well also
  5. Ed your knives are truly amazing now that i think about it thats moast what smithing is
  6. the entire blade is useable for paternwelding and the bar is tipicaly aluminum but some are steel and you can use them for something
  7. um i would try and hold off on the heat most here have herd of paw paw and no brass is not galvnization BUT if you over heat it you will end up with molten copper and gasious zinc oxide(that will kill you)and it is cumliative in the body we all value your input here so please be careful
  8. i am just wondering why the brake drum is flush and covered with a grate it seams that might be more effective to have the brake drum rased a little and a smaller tweer but you might be on to something you would get a fairily even burn across a large aria

  10. it would seam that it would burn through but i used a tin can with nail holes, a shop vac and some logs for my first forge YouTube - forge tour i have sceine upgraded to coal but that can lasted and about 4 inches were left bare iron as a grate and it lasted for some odd reason so the wok is definitily a a higher gauge twere just make shure its not Al and you will be fine

  12. i have just found the jackpot of all smithging supplys in my area but have been sworn to secracy by the locals i useto think that MO had been stripped of all tools (now to find a decent scource of local steel) every area has it's pitfalls look in the most unlikely of places
  13. i have been asked to make a small peice of ladder pattern plate buti had have a few questions before i answer with a price can i just putit in the rolling mill hot till it comes out to 14 gauge or is something elase involved working temp? could it be worked cold? how would one etch a 12" X 12" plate? thanks in advance for your replys the freind is an armorer and it is to go to a "special project" :confused:
  14. i would just leave it alone the lead was proly put in to kill the ring if it is a cast steel anvil so dose it ring
