  1. mike hit the nail on the haed thats more than what i started with what are you going to ues for fuel coal or charcoal if your going to use charcoal dont get the briquets they are mostly limestone filler get lump charcoal slack tub a 5gal bucket works ok and is chaep as for the anvil it works as is but i may recomend this site to fancy it up a bit you have more than i satrted with have fun and be safe
  2. i am proly lucky but i can still buy 3/8 round 20' for $1.78 +tax thats what i paid a week a go

  4. simmonds this is how i got started i may recomend that you not let thewm use your good hammers or anvil because its likely to take a lot of abuse get a RR anvil or a hf ASO this will be cheaper in the long run
  5. yes i could but i just used cyanide as an example lots of other chemicals on them
  6. not all are radio active but have some other nasty thing on them whale they would be nice i dont think its wise to mess around with scinide and other nasty stuff
  7. ahhhhh please dont remind me of those anvils taunting me in that ware house ist a giant bulding fill of anvills about 95% are radio active or have some nasty chamicals on/in them the ones that escaped incarceration in the lacal super fund site all from 10# to 500+ they just taunts me
  8. thomas a rock is not as good as the anvil stump and likes to explode no matter what rock you use beleve me i started out on a chunk of granite bad anvil and not recomended and warned aganst but if you wish? -max
  9. thats really cool i tried casting a coupple of times i diddent work well molds cracked and other problems
  10. thankyou dodge the link you gave is very usefull and contains great information frosty thankyou for all the information i new some one would have the answer along with the answer to alot of feture questions dave i thank you for your input the reason i am asking these questions is to replace my decrepid a 15# hf aso no feet no non chipped edges and a 1/4 inch depression in the center
  11. i am 15 and am strongly concidering buying a new anvil (or new to me) and i realised i dont have a clue what makes an anvil a good anvil i know the idea that anay thing you can beat steel on is an anvil but what makes an anvil good what anvil do you use and what makes it good thank you -max

  13. put a peice of burlap in front of the blower inlet light it on fire crank blower the smoke knocks out the bees makes them passive
  14. i have been smithing scence i was nine and scence i moved i had to leave moast of my stuff at my grandparents so what i have is: 1 #25 bench vice 1 #15 hf anvil (ASO) bunch of small tools files hammers and such and a coal/lump charcoal mix forge made from fire brick base and 12hole brick chimney and there are quite a few kids our age on IFI all of wihich have contributed alot to this forum

  17. i didnot get this anvil it was sold a bout 2 hours before i got there sort of annoying but oh well
  18. nice find have fun with it make something cool show us all but i dont like the lack of a ring in the anvil ithink and some one can correct me if iam wrong but i think the lack of a ring says it is cracked so check it for cracks and other things be carefull and have fun and its a steel at $20.00 nice find
  19. woke me up too early to think 4:30 ish i am in saintlouis areia and it was interesting just hope it dosent trigger annay more (the big one)new madrid and a whole bunch of over due faults lets just hope the next element is left out of the party wild fire
  20. after looking at Glenn's "true price of" threds i was wondering where most shop tools anvils forges tongs hammers blowers ect... come from i think its mostly tailgateing and farm auctions but i am not shure
  21. i have seen those being used as tractor counter weights so i think viking is spot on or its an anvil take your pick
