  1. I believe there is a 3rd designation of "member" from 50 to 100 posts.
  2. It sounds to me like something someone made up who doesn't know anything about smithing. Or it's something really cool that is supposed to be kept a secret from neophytes like me! :D
  3. This followed me home back in the early 1990's from Italy but I didn't know what I had till I "rediscovered" it in my box of "stuff" Seems like forging like that could be painful. So the missing photo was of a Italian 50 Lira coin with a naked smith (probably HEPHAESTUS) hammering at his anvil.
  4. I found this in my box of "stuff" from my trip to Italy with the Maine Army National Guard back around 1992. I don't think I ever realized what was on that coin till now. Seems like smithing in your all together could get painful!
  5. Wow, if they are cast iron then that's probably why the welds on the base of my post vice snapped off while I was pounding on some metal in the vice!
  6. One idea I've had for bending the "hard way" that I haven't had chance to actually try yet is to use a piece of angle iron on that outside corner and hammer that against the piece you want bent. I guess you'd need to be careful not to hammer too hard and leave gouges in the straight sides though.
  7. Welcome Justin, great score and good plan for brake drums. I have several I've gotten from the bus garage where I work. Are they tool steel? What are you using to cut them? My Ox/Ace torch didn't seem to like it much, a bit thick it was and wasn't cutting through, just puddling up. Perhap a larger size nozzle would help.
  8. Good work, keep it up and keep having fun!
  9. Are you able to upload and post these to youtube for watching after the fact?
  10. $2,621.16 including tax and shipping for a 450lb. Nimba Gladiator.
  11. I was just looking at that site and noticed this, I think I need make one myself! imagetemplate
  12. I hope lots of you get to do some hammering today. It's unlikely that I will. My daughters birthday was last Monday but I only have them alternating weekends so we are celebrating her birthday today. Happy Hammering!
  13. I would leave it as is, if you need a sharp edge, look to the hardie end of the RA, looks pretty sharp edged to me. Also you could make a flat sided hardie tool if you need a flat face to work on.
  14. I'm glad I use a gasser and don't have to worry about it, I probably would have pronounced it tire, as in auto or bicycle.:p
  15. Great luck Dave, just what I'd expect from another Mainer!
  16. cool, that makes sense now. It's not triple digit's here but getting close today.
  17. Those look great Sam, I've heard that term "tactical katana" before but I don't remember what the significance is. Does the hilt stay unwrapped? or no tsuba?
  18. Prayers for Philip and his family and all those who are suffering from the earthquake and aftershocks. God be with you all.
  19. I'm a bit thick in the head today, what does it do? I was trying to figure it out just from the pictures, my brain doesn't want to deal with reading the technical description right now.
  20. I have never used or even seen one before. That is one mighty big horn though! It looks like there is still plenty of face to work with, mount it up and give it a go!
  21. Nice looking anvil, seems to be in good condition too.
  22. Thanks, Jose and irnsrgn that was exactly the info I was looking for!
  23. OK, bad memory on my part but what are the applications that you'd want / need DC +/- for?
  24. That is some good looking work Bob, do you have a picture that shows the whole thing? In this picture, how did you get the one short horizontal square bar that is at the top of the design, inside the vertical bars? Does it have very short tenon's or are the vertical bars and horizontal bars dovetailed and forge welded?
