  1. I'm not gonna tell you what the hitchball size is, plus my wife works from home and I work 2 miles from home so I can be back there very fast! The anvil is off the trailer now anyhow. You'd have a bit of a drive from NM, Thomas it might be cheaper to buy one then to pay for the gas to drive up!
  2. I look at it not as a new love or lady but more of a new hard working best friend. Not too many ladies that I can think of that would stand for being hammered on all day long and still want anything to do with me. A best friend though, can take a pounding and still be your friend afterwards.:)
  3. thank you all for your idea's and examples, that will keep me busy for a while to look through it all and see what I think I might be able to handle. So far the Gate on Hollis's website looks like something for me to strive for. Many of the others involve skills that I haven't developed enough yet. Colleen, thanks for your suggestions. The area I live in, the majority of gates / fencing / railings are all cold formed and welded. Our home is a pre-fab "manufactured home" so has no name, no historic background. Though we are in a fairly sunny, dry climate and the fruit industry is one of, if not the largest in the nation. So that's certainly a thought. I'll be working this week to get my new anvil ready to use, then create a sturdy work table so I can chalk out and lay out my design as I go.
  4. My Gladiator arrived today, I wasn't expecting it till Wednesday so I'm not completely ready to use it yet but I sure am happy to have it! You can see my HF anvil next to it for scale.
  5. Thanks Valentin, those are some amazingly great looking gates and stair railings. So far the idea I'm getting from looking at your's and the one's on Glasser's site is that I'm not ready for doing that kind of work or I'll at least have to try something where the components are not designed to be identical. I'm not good enough yet to get consistent results from the pieces I make. So maybe a gate and railings where each piece is supposed to look different from each other......................
  6. I'm looking to create a gate and railing for between the house and shop and I am looking for examples and idea's. I certainly would not try to copy anyone else's design but it helps my creative flow to be inundated by what others have done. Thanks in advanced. Larry
  7. Thanks Sam, it's one of my favorites as well. The legs look very sturdy, can't wait to see what it looks like with top on. You'll need a forklift to move it though!
  8. How long of a time frame do you have them for? Depending on the project, just the basic's you've mentioned so far could take up a good chunk of time. At least it would for me! p.s. where are you located? If you click on the user CP at the top of the page you can add your location so they show in your posts.
  9. Sounds very cool Sam, can't wait to see what it looks like!
  10. Congratulations, you are beginning your greatest adventure!
  11. It is a small, rounded, pointed hardy tool. Like this one.
  12. Thanks Chuck, I also have been a Rush fan for years and have also been wanting a signature line that better reflects my feelings. I had forgotten that lyric until I heard it on the radio the other day and it was like "YEAH!" That's what I want!
  13. I thought about driving to pick it up myself but cost of fuel these days, I'd be paying about the same to get it myself as it cost to have it delivered. Granted I'd get it quicker doing it myself but I'd need to take a day off work. I can wait. I'm pretty good at being patient.
  14. Not that I'm looking to buy it, as my Nimba is on it's way but do you have pictures? Always nice to see pictures of Anvils! Seems like a good price.
  15. A freight company named Con-way. I'm having it shipped to my work where they have a fork lift to take it off the truck. If I had them ship it directly to me and them bringing the forklift it would have cost a couple hundred more in shipping. I will trailer it home from work and am borrowing a friends engine hoist to move it around to it's working place once here. I'm planning on building a wood box / sand filled anvil stand to hold it. That way I can raise or lower it more easily till I find the best height for me.
  16. According to the tracking info, it will be going to visit Boise, ID before coming home to live with me. It is expected to arrive next Wednesday.
  17. That will probably become my new profile picture.
  18. I started like many others using a piece of RR Track then purchase a Harbor Freight Russian cast steel anvil and that's what I've been using for the past few years. Though at the classes I've taken from Jerry Culberson at Old Cedar Forge, I have used both the Gladiator and the Centurian anvils and liked them very much!
  19. Good one Peyton, that is much simpler. I like it! Now I just need a 1" drill bit!
  20. perhaps this could be another monthly challenge, to see how everyone can do to make a bird hawk out of a RR spike? Anyone interested? I'll post it in monthly challenge if so.
