Most if not all the forge welded anvils I have seen have what appears to be a crack where they were welded toghter. Some are really visable some you have to look real hard. ichudov I don't know where in IL you are but I visit Joilet area every Sept. (mom in laws bday) in 4 yrs I only found 2 anvils both crap both over $3lb I now have (4) enough. If you are within 60 or so miles of there I may have time to visit. Ken

Welding table
What is excessive heating? 30-60+ welds on 1/2 by 4 flat bar. sometimes torching out a piece. Sometimes heating to bend or streighten. Best way to warp a welding table is tacking things to it. Ken

Welding table
I built 3 5x5 tables with 3/4 inch tops set on a 5 inch channel frame with a cross brace. They were used to build 500lb guards for earth movers and 750lb robotic tables. No warp or sag after 5 yrs. The 1 1/2 in aluminum one was used for aircraft turbine parts. Flat after 10 yrs. Ken

Answering New Members Questions
Unfourtunatly most of the younger generation has been raised to demand/expect the answer/information to be given right now.My own included(EX wife raised them). We older 62+ folks had to learn from the school of hard knocks. Yoda had it right "Do or not Do, there is no try". Ken

I dislike drilling holes.
Better? Probably. Easier? Not. Lets see 1" sq bar. Layout and center punch takes the same time. Light the forge, forge already lit. Heat bar, punch/drift hole.streighten/adjust hole. OR install drill bit, turn on,drill press, drill 6 perfectly streight holes in the same time True its not traditional, True there is material loss, However for me its easier and quicker. Ken

Welding table
#1 would be a cast iron acorn table. #2 would be 1 1/2in thick aluminum plate. Don't have either in my shop but have used both. Need creative clamps for the alum but NO spatter sticking and NO warping no matter how hot you weld. Have warped a 5X5ft 5/8 top welding 500lb brush guards. Hope those days are past. Ken
