2 fails heat treating crow bar
Really got to watch some of sears stuff. About 20yrs ago I needed a 3/4 in breaker bar and large socket. Tool crib where I was working had just bought a set. After a hard battlethe head guy said if you damage it you will have to replace it. Went home removed the crankshaft bolt. Went to wipe the tools down. Trere in large stamped letters was Craftsman Made in Tiawan. Shop head took off to sears and returned them. Brands just don't matter. Ken

I often buy machines with no clear idea how I'll use them
I think Grant has it right. I have spent large amounts on equipment, I know how and what to use them for. the need may not be there today. How ever the need may be there tommorrow. If you don't have it you are out of luck. I have added CNC plasma cuting, trackhoe, skidsteer loader to my shop. Do I need it right now NO will it have a use in the future I think so. Go rent a trackhoe or slid steer for a weekend or a week. Need to offload a 250lb pallet off a truck no prolem. Need to build a 7500 gal pond no problem.

Goal: lead dipper, for casting bullets. Result: oops.
Tim, May I suggest just get a Lee Pot always the same heat makes for better bullets. Yeah primitive is cool but modern methods give better results. Shoot a .32 and .45 Ken

Interesting video -- O/A straight cut track device
Frosty has it right. right angle right gas settings. My concern is its a variable speed drill. The victors I have run are dial set(in per min) If the speed is not constant the cut is not constant. Ken

wrought iron?
781, Yeah most folks believe that railing and most all garden/patio furnature is wrought iron. Wrought is no longer made except for a few places in europe( very pricey) Can be found on ebay or old farms and marinas. Ken

Pipe bell
Might try making a male plug, lathe or ring over ring welded and ground. Heat 1/4-1/3 of the bell end. tap or squeeze it on. Works on copper. Ken

new smith
Steven, Bit of advise on the czech hammer. As it comes you probably won't like it. That said it is pretty easy to fix. I got one insted of a hofi. First use hammer bounced left right left forward. Next day drove to Big Blu picked up one of his. About 8X the money. Got home set them togehter. Ground the face smaller. Radius ground the face. Radius ground the sides.(balances the weight loss) handle was crooked and twisted. Replaced with handle from BB. Now except for a 1/2 lb weight diff they forge the same. Have about 1 hr and $30.00 more in it. Ken

big railing project
One more thing to think about. If you need to weld or grind anything do it before the floors walls and trim are finished. I had to pass up one (glad I did) Y shaped staircase. Balcony at the top.Marble floors, Mirror like treads and trim, plaster walls. Over 125 feet total. 2.5mil house. One scrape/scratch or weld spatter and your toast. Also another 125 feet of misc railings. All using fancy pickets ala Kings. Could I do it in a week for $2500.00? Not in this lifetime or the next. Hope you do well. Ken.
