  11. 100 amps would be flat out( over 400 amps output on mine) I rarely switch above the second range (out of 4) When its off or welding 1/4 or less its probably pulling about 40 amps or less. Perhaps Steve will jump in with a better way of saying it. Ken
  12. Fisher norris looks like the heel was cut or broken and dressed. The 150 would be the weight. Weigh it and see how much was lost. Looks to be in great shape. Enjoy. Ken
  13. Pinjas, I have a 330/ABP and love it. Learned on a similar Airco welding aircraft turbines Over 40 yrs ago. Opened my shop 7yrs ago with a 250 dialarc.Shopped for many yrs till I found a 330 with the 4 ranges. Would have to have at least a foot pedal with it for that price. Water cooler and torch would be a plus. At about 900lbs good casters are a must. Built like a tank. Square waves are nice but not needed.Spent 20yrs welding aluminum furniature piece work with a OLD lincoln tombstone with addon hi freq. Will take an old copperwound any day. Ken
  14. A little black is not bad. Bought some of those high carbon kitchen knives. Wife put them in the dishwasher come out bright orange. Ken
  15. When I made mine I used an oversized plate. After welding the hardy post I welded 1/2 inch sq bars on each side. No slop. Next step is to use a legless leg vise. Will get it up to a good working height. Ken
  16. Dragons lair replied to Allan's topic in Presses
In a word no. He is using the flywheel weight insted of arm power. Lot of mass plus leaverage. Ken
  17. If you can weld I would remove the remains of the plate. Build it up level then hardface it. Its not like your starting with a heirloom or sompthing you paid a bit for. Easy for me to say cause I have the time and tools. But its a thought. Ken.
  18. Take the 200 14yr old rods and throw them in the trash. They will snap crackle and pop And weld like crap. When the company I worked for went under I bought my dialarc. Came with 60-70 lbs of assorted open boxes of rod.I thought heat um up WRONG it helped but not enough to even play with. I do mostly Mig and Tig so scrapping them wasn't a big deal. New rods makes the learning curve easier. Ken

Not much use in a smithy. Its only arm powered. Used mainly to press bearings. They don't come with shape dies. Ken
  20. Drako11, Aluminum glows when it melts not before. When welding it it gets a little shiney then its gone. Ken
  21. I have seen worse and got them to work. 4 pin plug doesen't mean 3 phase Its marked 115-230 I have never seen 115 3 phase. Basicly its a multi tap transformer. If the ground lead has a pin on the end it would go in holes on the right + - Stinger in left holes low med hi. Old rods are good for nothing except spraying you with pieces. 2 options for 1st turn on. Turn breaker off plug unit in turn breaker on. Turn breaker off switch unit on turn breaker on. OR use a long stick. Ken
  22. Phil, Helps even more to have an oversized dog in the kennel. Ken
  23. My 2 cents, Ask what they want done with it if it can't be fixed. I tell any borrower You break it or lose it you fix it or replace it. As to the unit you may find the schematic inside the cover, The 5 sockets are amperage taps. Plug the stinger in one of those. Probably lowest on bottom left. Highest on top right. Clean out spiders and things. Clean connectors should work. Scrap the rods(too old and damp) Doubt you can find a manual for it. Good luck. Ken
  24. Tater, Should work, I run a diamondback artist forge. Has open ends and open front with a door. I close the door and most of one end. Will run 2-18 psi. A low grill tank would cause low heat. I run mine on a 100lb tank. Any relation to the TV guy tater salad? More GRIN. Ken
  25. Mark, I am glad its working so well for a free hammer.(GRIN) Kidding aside I cut down a hatchet yrs ago. Worked great useing the cutting edge but trying to use the hammr side was a pain, The right way or right tool is what works best for you. Enjoy. Ken
