  1. cant tell you how much power you need unless you tell us what motor it has/needs
  2. No one mentioned the degassing before the pour, or replacing what gasses off , Yes this means the alloy changes when its melted.
  3. IFI staff does not normally delete posts, unless they are duplicates; we just hide them from public view, and I don't see any post hidden in this thread, when did you post it Scott? I suggest you repost
  4. We are building a memorial for the memory of Glenn Conner. Members are asked to make and send (PM me for address) for final assembly Flowers, Leaves, and even Branches; to be made into a memorial bouquet for Glenn's wife Karen from all of us. I ask you leave stems on the longer side to make it easier for me to do the lay out. I will add to the list here in this post when I receive a package from a member, listing all who helped. Those of you who cant make a flower can make a leaf which will help fill out the design, I wont be able to tell you what it will look like, until after I get the supplies to build it. but I will post photos here. After I get enough to design and make something I will post here warning those that wish to help, a time line on getting finished, so no one is left out. If anyone wants to help assemble it, I live in Fort Wayne Indiana and welcome anyone crazy enough to come here and chip in. I just got our first donations in from Scott NC, Irondragon Forge ClayWorks, JHCC, GhostTownForge, Daswulf, Will Brouwers, Shainarue, Lary, GhostTownForge
  5. I have to cover at work Friday 2pm through Sunday 4pm Have fun with out me (Before Frosty gets smart, its in 3 dif shifts, not all at once)
  6. Once again I have to ask, what will you do with the zink contaminated has-mat vinegar after you are done
  7. My blower was made from a 120v Air Duct booster fan, I use a ceiling fan speed control for it
  8. Have you ever used a forge before? Its always a good idea to use someone elses forge a while before building one for yourself
  9. Glock 44 is a 22LR, the Glock 22 a .40 S&W actually designed as a LEO weapon, clear as mud now?
  10. I remember in the summer of 1978 I was 15, and we were getting wasted on a hill watching tanks play capture the flag in Weisbaden Germany. After a while, we decided to play too, we got both flags and raised then at the base PX, that is when the MPs arrived. Lucky for us, the girl I was with was the base commanders daughter so they just returned the flags and took us home where I got an ear full.
  11. For years I used a mix of transmission fluid and 30wt oil fir simple steels, for more exotic stuff I sent it out to the pros
  12. On the other hand I have had the same 6 gal or so of my McMaster Carr Quench-Fast 11 second oil for over 10 years; its dependable and a known speed
  13. If only 2 conducting wires are correctly connected it will allow it to run at about 60% power
  14. I should add that 5160 is easy to heat treat not needing to have an exact speed quench to get good results, and used fryer oil is the most cost effective oil to get for that purpose
  15. Since this forge had 2 threads, I merged them into one, to keep details together
  16. I dont like the smell or taste of burnt scales for one, for another I dont want scales in my meat
  17. While only a few have gotten back to me, its clear most want another bouquet so here we go. We will need flowers or any type, life size preferred; young buds as well as open blooms. And also leaves and branches as well., after I get a supply of things sent to me I will start the to lay out a design and start assembly. When it gets nice and full I will post a time deadline to get more things sent to me, so I can finish and deliverit to Glenns family. This worked well the last time to give everyone time to make something if they wish. I do ask that you leave stems of whatever you make extra long so I have options on mounting
  18. scale them, then fillet them, cook them leaving the skin in the pan when you remove to eat, grew up on lake Michigan eating various types of salmon and steelhead and other large trout, my preferred method is smoking them
  19. there are pinned threads in both heat treating sections
  20. I cant have a power hammer in my historic neighborhood, due to noise BUT while researching it, he was helpful to me as well, Many people have all had great things to say about James, he is a class act
  21. I strongly suggest you sell to that person in MN, If he really thinks its worth $5k.
  22. I told Foo I will handle the gathering the stuff for the memorial for Glenn, same as I did for Whitesmith. What do we want to do this time, same thing? Metal Flower bouquet? For those not around back then, anyone wishing to add their work, sent me a flower they made, didn't matter what kind, besides roses, we had a large shamrock from Ireland, a rose bud rosary and a life size magnolia, some were bronze some stainless steel Gum nuts and leaves from Australia because that smith didn't make flowers, one smith sent me a box of leaves to fill out the decoration, and another made grape vines to use as the base structure that everything else was gas welded onto. Here are a few photos from that project
