  3. Pocahontas Bituminous Blacksmith Coal is what you should be looking for, Thats what I have used in a coal forge for the last 60 years, But you have to know how to work a fire Ironmike
  4. You can't put any heat on that or it could blow up in your face! It was welded when it was a bare empty open cylinder and safe to weld Ironmike

  6. For the last couple of years I have been using Fluid Flim check it out,It was developed by the US Navy during the 2nd world war for high salt areas. And in the Northeast thats all we have is salt and rust! I have used everything in over 60 years in my shops and this is super! (fluid-film.com) I use it to free things up, To protect things and even as an undercoat the stuff works great Ironmike

  10. CrookedPath, I think that comment went over your head, I was being facetious, that whole job can be do at the forge, the heat treat can be done in a few minutes, but you have to know what your doing. heat treating is a skill like anything else
  11. Wow all these years I been heat treating in a coal forge and now I find out I've been doing it wrong! I need A toaster oven! And it will make my lunch taste better Ironmike

  14. Sodium filled exhaust valves were used alot in VW air cooled engines, I replaced hundreds of them. Also used them in British cars and later in american engines for their cooling properties, now a days they use stellite, stainless steel,ect Ironmike

I,ve been swinging a hammer for 60 some years and it was a real treat to have and use my first Hofi diagonal peen hammer when they first came out, I like all the Hofi hammers I have, they are very well made. Nice Score!! Thomas that Peddinghaus Swedish Crosspeen is a nice hammer also, I like them as well, They all have a use depending on the job
  21. I roll out one of my Buffalo scales, Set it on and weigh it, Or put two on it, weigh both, then take off one check it again and deduct the one and you have it
