  1. To order plans and a materials list for Rusty or Dusty, please contact: Jerry Allen The Wizard's Forge Rt. 1, Box 174-D Lost Creek, WV 26385, USA 1-304-745-3886 I called them and left a message that you were trying to contact them. The best to you!
  2. You are in luck!!! There are several blacksmiths located in the area of Hill Airforce Base. Like Daniel said, contact Bonneville Forge Council. Bonneville Forge Council This Bonneville Forge Council member is fairly close to you. Lee Peterson (vice president) 3991 2nd St. Ogden Utah 801-393-4164
  3. I used to be in pretty good shape as a young man when I made my living as a blacksmith and I had to do a large amount of hand hammer forging. When I had to hand hammer all day, I would be dead tired at the end of the day. I know that I could not hand hammer all day with a dead Blow hammer. You need the re-bound factor of the hammer that is sometimes referred to as (Coefficient or Restitution), (rebound trajectory), or ("trampoline effect") in order to last all day in a professional shop to assist you by kicking the hammer upward. I would not even attempt to hand hammer all day with a dead blow hammer. If you read “Richards” post carefully, it is a key to answering your post. My opinion would be that there is a place, time and use for a dead blow hammer. But it is not for a person forging steel over the anvil who is under the gun of a supervisor in a blacksmith shop and needs to last all day!
  4. I have watched that show a few times. I saw a guy get knocked off of his horse and then dragged for a few feet. When they opened his face mask up the guys face was colored red with blood. :o Any activity where people repeatedly yell “are you OK?”, then have to use a pry-bar and a can opener to check things out would scare the socks off of me, and I would avoid suiting up because I would be busy running the other direction. It looks very dangerous especially if the Lance penetrated in-between the joints of the suit. It is a wonder that OSHA has not stepped in and made them define too what degree of protection the armour/armor Sheet metal fighting suit must really provide? I would spell it “Armour” if “U” was in it. But it would be ok for me to spell it “Armor”, because “I” would not be in it! I say all of this with tongue in cheek, but it does look dangerous!!
  5. Tim I have read all of the posts in this thread, and especially your last post. It gave me reason to ponder about the outcomes we receive after we pray. At times such as this our attention is drawn to what is most important in our lives. Because then we realize how fragile life actually is. Without flinching, something inside of us compels us to reach out with boldness and ask for help in prayer. And then after our initial interaction, I firmly believe that we should water and nurture our prayer requests with prayers of thanksgiving that continue and never cease, regardless of what we comprehend. Again, I gratefully add my prayers of thanksgiving with you and yours, and this community. I believe I can speak for all who have responded by posting on this thread and also for those who did not post, but responded quietly, when I say; “Please give Your Mother our greetings and best wishes for a speedy recovery” Ted Throckmorton
  6. It just don't get better than that!! How lucky for "Old N Rusty" Richard: The Hammer you made for me is only nice and shiney. I will try to get by using it with out the fine paint job! Ha Ha Ha! Ted Throckmorton
  7. Thomas; I am a very rich and blessed man in that I truly feel a personal satisfaction and joy when I hear about when good things happen to other people! For you to train with Brian and LDW, that is good news!!! I believe that by placing yourself in the positive environment of Brian, Karen, and LDW there will be even more gained by all of you in addition to the impartation of the upper echelon of operational processes of forging steel. Thomas, it is also refreshing to hear about your wife that is as supportive to you as my wife is for me. I hope for all of you to have a valuable and beneficial time. Ted Throckmorton
  8. We continue with our prayers on behalf of your mother’s full recovery and peace of mind for your family! Ted & Lynne
  9. Prayer has been sent from our home and our hearts also.
  10. I am so pleased to hear how blessed your situation has unfolded. Many times during episodes of uncertainty and pain, doubt tends to acquire our focus. Prayer helps us to change our focus back to the “answer” for healing that we so desperately desire for our self or others. While recovering I believe it is wise to consider the following verses Psalms 46. And Philippians 4:8 We feel privileged that we are able to add our prayers along with yours and the others.
  11. Our prayers have been expressed for wholeness and the welfare of your grandson Garrett Stewart and his family. Our request includes that blessing be on the Surgeons (that they may be able to successfully do what is required to establish a healthy balance of pressure) and for all others who may contribute in any way for a successful outcome. Thank you for the opportunity to allow us to join in with you and others for the benefit of your grandson. Ted Throckmorton
  12. That is good news! I am so happy to hear that report. My thoughts are drawn here; Philippians 4:4-7 We will continue to remember Nelda Winn in our prayers as we give thanks for this outcome, one that we are better able to understand and cope with. My best to you and yours! Ted Throckmorton
  13. Woody & Jackie, praying and then asking others for prayer for someone else is a powerful way to assist Nelda. Here are some thoughts that come to my mind: Mat 21:22 and John 14:13 Please know that our prayers have been added along with your prayers and others who are in support of Nelda’s welfare. We also pray for all who are involved such as your family, her friends, the hospital staff and doctors. It is always needed! I investigated traffic accidents for 36 years and have seen the ravages of pain and anguish resulting from them. On the other hand I have seen the results of Prayer first hand. I can no longer doubt the power of prayer.
  14. You are no doubt a “WINNER” You would not have to make a speech or say anything at all; “Your work says it all”. What I see in the photos looks outstanding to me. You are a credit to the Metal Arts Craft. You have no doubt invested your valuable time, study, money, sweat, stress, and paid the price of attempting to keep your priorities balanced properly in life to develop your skills. I say the above based on my experience only! In my younger days, I may have physically left my shop at night, but my mind stayed in the shop to some degree 24/7. You obviously know the route to take to get to where you are at this point with your skills. The icing on the cake would be for you to provide direction for someone else who has a like mind as yours was when you first got started. That way your knowledge and skills will continue beyond your days. I wish you the very best in all that you do. Ted Throckmorton
  15. LDW “THANK YOU” The thing I have learned about when you post is that it means that something good is about to happen and we are all going to learn something of significance. When you (LDW) team up with Brian + one of his students (such as Shawn) + I Forge Iron WE ALL WIN! The two of you (along with both of your unseen family’s personal support) make what you do a “WIN ~ WIN” situation for thousands of people who benefit from your willingness to teach and share here at I Forge Iron. I Forge Iron has provided a near perfect (for our times) vehicle to deliver the fruits of knowledge and expertise of highly skilled teachers and communicators such as yourself and Brian. Right now; these are the good old days if we choose them to be. I must sound like a broken record, but I do understand the value of what Brian and yourself has brought to the table of broadening the base of understanding of the blacksmith craft, worldwide. Thank you bringing us this opportunity to learn something of the blacksmithing kind! Ted Throckmorton
  16. Thank you for posting. Like Jimmy Seale said: WOW, just WOW!
  17. Nice concept Frank. And that was a excellent suggestion for an alternative way to adjust to the relative height of the anvil Jeremy.

I built this "Fictional" Forge Cart" to be used as a prop in a High School Play "ONLY". Nothing was real. It was used just for visual eye candy to stimulate imagination just for fun! Time period depicted for the play was 1812 in the UK. ~ Great Expectations
  22. We have a tab that says "STORE" and another that says "TAILGATING" located at the top of the form. It seems as though they are not being used at the present time, or I don't know how to use them. I am sure there is a good reason for that. That may be a good question for the site administrator: Glenn This site is constantly being up-graded even as we speak. The demand and volume of use requires that it is upgraded to meet the need. So don't give up mfm, it gets better and better all of the time. Ted Throckmorton
  23. You have become a "Hands-On" blacksmith over the last while. But to our benefit. You have hit on a "NITCH" that may have no end to what you may create. Very artistic + Good Idea + Fine forging = "A very nice product indeed" :)
