  1. Here is mine 75lb commonsense hammer it is attached to the side of the control arm and it just rubs on the flange of the drive pulley, very simple design and it works good Hey Grant don't "Freak Out" on the brain police dude just go chill in joes garage, may be some catholic girls over there
  2. welding in the rain? keep your gloves dry, try not to complete the circuit through your body (don't hold on to work while welding or holding a hot stinger) use a weed burner to dry stuff off before you weld, stay away from low hydrogen electrodes innershield wire like nr 211 would be a good choice or 6011 stick (good ol farm rod burns through dirt oil rust) more pictures after installed would be great
  3. hey grant you look alot like frank zappa all the sudden, look out where the huskies go!
  4. The miller sychrowave will do nicely, as will the beer, I have to go check on a job today but this guy seems to be giving me a runaround. I will come up there and weld it for you I have lots of experience at stick welding, also I have temp sticks so don't worry about that. See if you can get the stoody rod it looks like stoodite 21 is what Robb is referring to https://www.mytherma...tabName=Manuals Well let me know when you get it together and I can shoot up there for a couple of days, oh I will check my rod oven today also there is all kinds of weird stuff in there lots of chrome molly rod I know
  5. yep sounds good to me get the anvil preped and gather the materials and i can shoot up there and help you i can bring an engine drive welder also no prob (dont remember seeing a stick welder in your shop)
  6. ["Hey Ma, gussy up the girl, this one's got some manners"!
  7. The Elkhorn is good stuff its what I get out here in sunny CA a 100 mile drive one way and $800 a ton- ya you got a good deal there. (oh its $800 + tax $66.00) http://www.lazzari.com/industry_bituminouscoal.html
  8. ya i see what you are saying the only bummer is you can not save the video file or at least i cant figure out how to save it. computer in the shop or clay in the house-- hmmm
  9. Brian- thanks for the claymation video it really shows the steps better for us slow guys
  10. thanks brian i think i asked you to do this about six months ago (right on pace) also a sketch like the one you did for the horse head would be quite helpful more so than the claymation in my opinion
  11. nice job on the coat rack I like the random patern. as far as all framing to be 16 oc? maybe maybe not, could be 24 oc or maybe there is a reason the stud is not where it is "supossed" to be. if the anchor that you use is not strong enough you can open the wall up and add some backing, but you should be fine with just one stud attached
  12. Finally got this hammer running, after much research and some oakie ingenuity (thanks chuck) I got this thing to work and it hits hard, a little sloppy in the slide and the bearings need a rebuild but for occasional use it should be fine for now Thanks to all the guys that helped along the way, Chuck was a great help he came up with this set up and let me come to his place and see it and also use the hammer his is the smaller no 1 hammer and it gets right to work as well. Also I would like to thank dkunkler and mike-hr for their help on checking my math for the pulley size on the jack shaft this stuff is not cheap so it was good to get it right the first time it seems to be running at a controllable speed. I am heading to the scrap yard today to try and find some material to make some more dies and hopefully a piece of cold rolled for the bearing rebuild
  13. looks nice I am planning to try one myself, looks like a bomb went off in your shop (insert smilley face) my kind of place a clean shop is the sign of a sick mind
  14. saw a guy do a demo of a mouth harp here is a picture of the finished harp
  15. I tried to find a lower rpm motor very pricey I got this one on ebay for around $175 with the shipping and it looked like they rolled it to my house the box was beat up bad when it got here
  16. the hammer was originally on a line shaft I am putting an electric motor on this hammer, I found a flat drive pulley in my back yard of all places (duh) forgot that i had it it is 5 1/2 inches so I got the pulleys a 3'' on the motor to a 10'' on the jackshaft to the 5 1/2'' this should put me at 237 rpm I used two grove v belt sheaves. Got the motor mounted and the jackshaft installed so i ordered the flat belt from hit and miss and it should be here this week. The post that I mounted the motor to is attached to a threaded rod to allow for alignment and also lets me lay it over to my bench to get this behemoth of a motor mounted (heavy). here are a couple of pictures most of this stuff I had laying around I just had to buy the pulleys, shaft and pillow blocks
  17. I think you are right about that it was probably a discharge chute for seeds or fertilizer I live in the salad bowl area, I think it will make a nice hood it used to sit over an outdoor fire place until the house sold then it was removed for code issues, gonna go put it up today and try it out, I will get more pics on when I am done
  18. I was looking at stuff and found this up to $450 plus shipping for a rivet forge. looks like I will be cleaning up a rivet forge thats been sitting in my yard for the last ten years http://cgi.ebay.com/Blacksmith-Champion-Forge-Tool_W0QQitemZ290402924512QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item439d5cf7e0
  19. my neighbor had this hood in the back yard it will be a nice addition to my forge, planning to install it this week end and add a ring around the bottom edge to hang tongs on. this measures 42 inches dia and it is 6 feet tall
