  1. That is a nice looking Bowie, good job!
  2. hard to tell whats going on with this set up but it looks like he has a slack belt and the idler wheel is pushing outward to remove slack, if this is the case it would work much better pushing inward
  3. If you want to go with flat belt I have found some sources hit & miss has cast pulleys but a limited size the also have belting I got one for my powerhammer and one for my lathe they work great http://www.hitnmiss.com/index.html I found another place that has a better selection of stock pulleys and will custom make one if needed I did all this research when I was getting my hammer running then I went outside and almost tripped over a leather pulley that was right in my backyard (literally) paper pulleys has good selection check em out http://www.paperpulleys.com/pages/home.html
  4. I took the cover off an ac machine in order to replace the cord, and I think there was an access panel in the back if I remember right, the welder is in 29 palms now or I would go look at it again, try looking for another way in besides the front cover welders need to be cleaned out with air and there must be a way to remove the sheet metal to do that maintenance, which you should do when you are in there, just blow out all the dust, be careful not to spin the fan with the air and beware of the undischarged capacitor
  5. Yes the water cooler you guys don't miss a thing I am going to look into that I think I might even have one buried in the garage I will have to dig it out and see if it is compatible with this machine. Now I have to sell the other welder, hate to do it but i need the room, any one on the left coast needs a welder contact me I will be traveling to northern CA within the next month and can deliver it then. I will post a picture later
  6. The beer goes in the cooler, then down the hatch, mmmmm beer! now I am hungry all that bbq looks good
  7. I could not pass up the machine it came from the shop of E.A. Chase, Chase is closing shop and had a sale of the tool that he no longer needs. I had to get approval through "Head Quarters" (my girl friend) and I am replacing my old Idealarc 250 stick welder with this monster 300 , 375 amps @ 60% duty cycle. Now I need more power to the shop, sparky is going to come check out my panel to see if I can get another 30 amps out of there. I got the welder home yesterday and removed the sheet metal to find that a mouse had taken up residence in side and after much blowing with air found the culprit all crispy, the way I like em, well done. I got every thing hooked up and working, tried out the high frequency unit, did a little stainless weld test. this thing has great arc characteristic real smooth.
  8. That is compact very nice. Did you use a hydraulic press, or forge by hand?
  9. The towel holder is awesome great work, the fork is great design as well
  10. I dont see it being a problem keep the grass green, you may loose small objects in there but rock is good for that as well
  11. pine tar works good put it on and go back to work
  12. no worries on the bulimia and I was just messing around with my comment thought it would be good for a laugh and yes at least it isn't a boulder slicing broadsword congrats on you anvil sounds like a good score
  13. I am planning to just use some brass screws I thought about making some nails to attach but this wood is old (may end up a pile of kindling) and if I nail them on and need to adjust that would be a problem so I am going to take the easy way and buy a pack of screws
  14. I did not use a jig this brass moves easy I just clamped in the vice and hammered down then inserted the round stock and continue hammering until it closes up finishing with sharp edge on anvil. A jig would be a great idea but with a short run like this I did not want to take the time to make one. Thanks for the vote of approval
  15. We just got a cabinet for the bathroom it was hand made pine kind of distressed wood looking. My girlfriend wanted a latch for it as the doors are a bit warped and will not stay shut. So I have to go and open my big mouth and say that I could make a latch and some hinges as well. (doohht) Well I have some yellow brass that was kick plates on doors that I saved from the trash on a job a few years back, I kept it real simple nothing fancy and these are my first hinges so it was a good learning experience. I used 3/16 stainless for the hinge pins and upset the end a little so they will not slide out I think I am going to shorten the latch about 1/2 an inch
  16. another guy who doesn't know what an anvil should look like and wants to make knives I think I am going to hurl!
  17. nice looking press, can you give some info on the pump you are running? gpm, where did you puchase it, how did you attach to the motor? thanks clinton
  18. It took all these years to develop that nice patina and you want to paint it? I would leave it as is myself
  19. I have been collecting signs from jobs that I was on and decided to start putting them on the back door to my garage for laughs, hope you guys enjoy it
  20. the never get it apart maybe (sub floor adhesive is nasty stuff) Tom Clark told me that he used silicone to attach his anvils to the stand and to remove you just heat it up and lift the anvil then a couple of good blows with a hammer to the stand and it comes loose I like this tripod desing it follows the shape of the anvil the legs in tight not too much angle one inch plate that the anvil sits on I used 1/4 inch wedge anchors to secure it to concrete slab if any thing moves it will be the earth
  21. You can also set your camera to take smaller pictures I have mine set at 1024 res it says pc on my camera it seems like a good size for posting here is an example spun copper 3/16'' thick
  22. I have seen anvil repair done using stick electrode e11018 low hydrogen rod, the guy used this same technique described here and he claimed to have done several anvils with good results, alot cheaper than the hardfacing rods @ $8.00/ lb. The mig would probably be ok on the face to fill any gouges with but on the edge you are going to want something harder than a 70 series electrode
