  1. I spent a couple of hours making hearts yesterday this is a fun project that uses very little material and fuel and teaches you hammer control. Also made one out of an old horse shoe it came out a little rough but thought I would share it as well
  2. I bought this anvil from Tom Clark at the vista conference in 2004 and it has this guys name on it, not a big deal but I would like to get his side of the story. really big picture(oops) my bad
  3. Wow nice work. What material are you using? And what is the size?
  4. Roger Lorance 309 475-9012 give him a call (heavy duty)
  5. Ok thanks guys I will go for parts today they have to order the pulleys so I should be able to get this thing going next week and I will post some pictures
  6. It is a chunky salsa there must be something simillar over there
  7. I am working on getting a comonsence power hammer running it had no motor when I bought it, it was set up on a line shaft. Ok here is what I have the motor 1725 rpm 3'' pulley - the pulley on the hammer is 12'' this gives me 431.25 rpm I am going to step it down with a jack shaft using an 8'' step down to 5''= 269.53 rpm 3/1725 12/?=431.25 5/431.25 8/?=269.53 The info that I found on this hammer says hat it should run at 275rpm Is there anyone out there that can tell me if I am figuring this out right before I go out and buy the pulleys? Grant are you out there? I have been recalculating this and this is what I have now The motor=4.6''/1725 jackshaft=10''/793.5rpm other side of jack shaft= 4''/793.5 pulley on hammer 12''/264.5 rpm I am leaning toward the 4'' pulley on the jack shaft because I can buy it for a reasonable price from hit & miss (this is a flat belt drive pulley)
  8. http://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/15588-hammers-for-denmark/ Brian is making these hammers now and they are awesome and I am sure he can ship it to you
  9. here is a link that shows what Glenn is talking about http://www.blksmth.com/Anvi_base_preparation.htm
  10. very nice and whatever you did with those pictures makes it open up nice, (the picture of the ear rings was huge) I am sure they will be pleased with the hammers, I keep mine close by at all times
  11. those are awesome glad to see you got your internet going I was gonna send out a search party (insert smilley face here) Oh and happy 23rd b-day Karen

    WTB flypress

I am looking for a used flypress preferably in CA but other nearby states would be considered as well, Nevada, Oregon I would prefer to pick it up as shipping is too expensive on something this heavy. Let me know if you guys come across anything. As far as size bigger is better
  13. Can you post some pictures of the commonsense hammer? And how much are you asking for it? I am in the process of setting one up now and I know that I have some condition issues, a parts machine would come in handy not too many of these around.
  14. Thanks Frank- I need to get that book, this guy had a lot of neat stuff I also picked up an anchor there about 3 ft long bronze probably weighs about 60 lbs I think I gave him $40.00 for the anchor and $30.00 for the anvil, its been laying in my back yard for the last ten years, I knew this was the place to come for answers
  15. I have this bufallo forge with a side draft chimney and the blower has a fitting (on the inlet side) that ties into the flue on the backside. There is another cap on the side, also it looks like there was a waste gate at the bottom end of the flue at one time. Once the fire is going I opened the cap on the suck side and it seems to draft better that way. Does any one out there have one of these? or know how it is supposed to work?
  16. found this a few years back it is cast and about 11 inches log by 7'' wide 9'' tall weighs about 80 lbs maybe someone knows what it is
  17. I have found big chunks of thermit along the railroad tracks it has lots of iron in it for sure real porous big grain structure I have never done any thing with it I just thought it looked cool so I brought it home. This is an extremely volatile reaction they are welding rail road tracks together (lots of heat) wander the tracks and you may find some just stay clear of oncomming trains (another disclaimer) maybe I will just watch football today much safer
  18. If you watch craigslist you can find some good deals a guy just sold a nice miller mig with a tri mix bottle and a 25 lb spool of stainless wire for $285.00 and that is $150 worth of wire. I recently picked up a lincoln 225 ac welder at a yard sale for $25 the guy wanted 50 which would be a good deal but he took the 25 and helped me load it. another craigslist that I picked up lincoln sp 100 for $123.00 these a great little machines 110 v plug in anywhere and like biggundoctor said you can weld heavy stuff with this just make small beads and fill up the joint making sure that you tie in the weld with each pass. Bottom line here be patient and look around also get a name brand lincoln, miller, hobart
  19. I made this collaring tool in my spare time this week designed from the Brian Brazeal tool 1'' plate for the bottom with a 6'' space up top this allows for spacing any size collar, then I welded a piece of square tube to fit my hardy. also some tools from spring that I made yesterday some slitting chisels and an eye punch I used coil spring its about 5/8 dia and some potato digger chain 1/2'' for a slitter and the ball for the eye punch this stuff works great for tools oil quench then temper to straw. Also pictured in this set a bunch of abrasives that were on close out sale the big score in this batch was the 7 pearl flap wheels 80 grit zirconia for $20.00 hard to pass up a deal like that even when you are so broke that you cant pay attention http://picasaweb.goo...lcraftsman/0031#
  20. It looks to me like the guy tried to unscrew the valve that is factory mounted on top of the cylinder (do not attempt) Reminds me of a story where this guy was attempting to trans fill a cylinder with similar results, he is no longer with us (dead) the gas in theses cylinders is at extremely high pressure 2200psi this can be dangerous, a basic welding class will teach you the safety on this subject, when properly handled oxy- acetylene is safe to work with don't let a bone head like this frighten you away from a very useful item
  21. Rutterbush- they spec 70 series electrode out here in cali (E-70xx) ironworkers use 5/32 7010 on the metal decking usually 16 ga material
  22. I beilieve that the "pavers" that they are talking about are the bricks that are used in driveways and such (interlocking)
  23. like thomas said find sheet metal workers they throw away tons of this stuff, if you catch the guys at break time you can score big time, try at noon or 10:00 break
  24. Thanks Grant I just printed it on some presentation paper now I just need to cut it out and I will be up and running
  25. Lots of good deals on houses in CA right now
