September 3, 20178 yr I have been on craigslist lately, one wonderful gentleman has made me aware he is willing to sell this anvil and told me to make an offer. can anyone tell me the make of the one, and is $200 a fair offer.
September 3, 20178 yr Cast sweedish steel. Looks like a Soderfors. Do a rebound test for good measure, but that's almost a steal!!
September 3, 20178 yr if it passes the ring and bounce tests then US$200 for that anvil is under current market value in your area. However I have bought a number of anvils below market value. You can ask if he will take it and go up if the answer is no.
September 3, 20178 yr Good call with cast steel. Swedish think thats it. Just had to look at some Soderfors to try to confirm, the Soderfors I have seen only say Sweden. The S.I.S.co anvils are stamped, made in Sweden, all caps and run together. Rebound is king. $200.00.... the wonderful gentleman may never answer you calls again. N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
September 3, 20178 yr 200 for a Swedish cast steel anvil is a steal. They usually go above 300 sometimes double that. You should inquire if he is familiar with anvils or blacksmithing in general, if not, he might sell you very low.
September 3, 20178 yr Lovely anvil. You'll be sorry if you let that lady slip away. Let us know how you get on.
September 3, 20178 yr Author I just emailed an offer of $200. I don't I will get it for that, but it will be a good start for negotiations. Unfortunately I don't have much room to negotiate.
September 3, 20178 yr Don't let that beauty get away , I love my sisco . I've seen that same weight sisco go for over 600 U.S. Dollars even though I only paid 2.35 U.S.dollars per pound good luck!
September 3, 20178 yr It's a Soderfors, grab it, $200.00 is almost theft but if he's happy, cross his palms quickly and say thank you while you load it. If he hems and haws, it's easily worth 2x that but up your offer by increments. You won't work on a better anvil than a Soderfors by any name, my 125lb. Sorceress is my go to for virtually anything. Frosty The Lucky.
September 3, 20178 yr Many folks want to get some money out of an anvil but may also want it to go to a good home. Others want top dollar plus for one---try to move along past these folks as fast as possible so you can spend more time hunting the first type!
September 4, 20178 yr Author I got it! I got anvil and stump still mounted, and it rings like a champ. I offered $200, he countered with $300 and we settled on $250.
September 4, 20178 yr Hopefully you've grabbed it before he comes to his senses! Very nice price for it. Now make him something "for boot"!
