BryanL
Hey folks! Just joined the site and wanted to share my recent pickup. It says "The Columbian. Vise & MFG Co. Cleveland, USA" I was pretty pumped with how heavy it was, smooth action, just need to loosen the swivel.
AR. Hillbilly
I have one just like it on my welding table. I've put it through some rough times and it has held up well. It had 2 ears broken off the swivel base when I bought it. I removed the base and made a new one from flat plate. I use it daily. Yours appears to be in very good condition. Frosty
Welcome aboard Bryan, glad to have you. Good score! Every shop needs a good heavy duty bench vise just don't do any heavy hammering on it. Tough as it is it's not intended to take sledge hammer abuse. The swivel bases tend to get crudded up over the years, taking it apart and cleaning it usually puts it to rights for another 50 or so years. If you don't mind me asking what did you give for that fine stud work horse? Frosty The Lucky.
BryanL
Thanks for the welcome Frosty. I paid $50 for it. There is an older widow whose husband had a lot of stuff for just about every hands on hobby there is. I also got a Peter Wright 193# out of that garage for $100, which is in great condition. Every time I miss my work piece the rebound almost hits me in the face.
Frosty
Those are killer deals. You might want to make the lady something nice as a thank you gift. Frosty The Lucky.
BIGGUNDOCTOR
Definitely make her a nice gift to show your appreciation, and to let her know that her husband's tools went to a good home.
BryanL
I will have to do that. I got a whole bunch of other stuff too. Hardy tools, several hammers (in steel, lead, and leather i think).
BIGGUNDOCTOR
Be careful hitting the face with the hammer, it can chip or dent it. Slow down and practice your hammer accuracy first with some basic projects like tapering.

BryanL
Matto here is a pick of the hardy tools and a couple hammer heads that I got as well.
matto
Bryan you did well the "hammer heads" are top fullers not hammers. Good score
BryanL
Ah ok, I haven't used any fullers yet. I'll have to do some research on when to use them.
Quarry Dog
Fullers are handy when drawing out, grooving, and forming something down into a swage.
Ernie42141
Dude. I think everyone would like to find a stash like that. Besides a gift for the widow give her your phone number and offer to help out if she needs it. That really means a lot.
