njanvilman
Fisher & Norris Factory Museum recently bought an original Fisher anvil stand that held a broken Fisher anvil. The anvil was removed, the stand cleaned and painted, and a near perfect 100 lb Fisher/Crossley anvil installed. It joined this group of pristeen Fisher anvils on display in the Museum. This is what Fisher anvils look like when new. A few of these have never been struck. When the Museum contents get sold someday, the buyer of any of these anvils will be the first to ever use them. Four of these are 150 lb, two are 100 lb.

Eatdirt
Hey guys, Im new here and i just picked up my 1st anvil. Just wondering what i have. The guy said it was about 50 lbs, ill weigh it to confirm. I was more curious about the markings. Is there one that signifies weight? Also are there knock off fishers or do i have a real deal? Thanks.

Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
The Fisher experts will be along shortly, in the mean time, I suggest reading the thread JHCC posted the link to get the best out of the forum. I would say you have the real deal. Not sure but I think the 8 on the front foot is the weight 80 pounds more or less.
ThomasPowers
It's the real deal---it says so! That is the date sold on it too as they offered a warranty based on that date. and 8 should indicate it's around 80 pounds. If it was sold to you as 50 pounds; then you got about 1/3 more anvil for free!
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Sad to say the warranty has expired. Hope you have read about not doing any grinding, milling or welding on the hardened face.
Eatdirt
Yea, ive seen alot of post about how to repair and whay not to do. Didnt plan on doing anything to it myself. jlpservicesinc
Here is one I just picked up. Pretty neat. plate tensioners anvil. Supposedly the last ordered or in stock at the factory. this was bought brand new 1984.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
That's a great 250 pound sawmakers anvil indeed, looks like it was hardly used. You be lucky dog you. I always chuckle at the handle they put on them, like someone will pick that monster up one handed.
Frosty
The handle is there so the smith can hold it up to the blade while he adjusts it to run true. Don't tell me you think they'd bring one of those big honkin blades to the smith do you? Frosty The Lucky.
njanvilman
Crossley made extra anvils in 1979 in anticipation of having some inventory after they were forced to stop casting at the end of 1979. They sold some of them in the early 1980s. The remaining inventory of anvils, stands, and a vise were given to me in 1999, and are all in the Fisher & Norris Factory Museum in NJ. The complete story of all of this will be in my upcoming book, hopefully available in spring 2020.
