This is the first forging I did on the 100lb LG I just restored.

I started with a 6" length of 2-1/2" round. I tapered half of it and then you can see what I did with it after that.

Finished height is 16"

7-4-13

That is interesting Beth - I never say that in this. Now that you mention it I can see your point, maybe from some of the cartoonish movies I've seen. Although the idea was to transform something of a standard stock (a round of steel) to look like it is, or has grown into something. Spooky - hum....interesting.

jk - its probably cos i like those kind of stories :) when i say spooky i mean kind of otherworldly - like a man eating plant or a stone pillar that turns into a rose or something that has a bit more Life in it than your average plant :) i really like it !

  • 4 weeks later...

I had a pr of tongs that would hold 2-1/2" round in the rack, so I didn't have to make any new tongs.

As I mentioned above - I replaced the pulley and went a bit larger - made a world of difference and others that have pounded some hot steel with it said "it's a pounder". Now just have to cut the floor and get a proper footing for it, this fall hopefully.
