I Forge Iron

I made this one out of scrap I had in the shop. The blade is forged from a black diamond file, mild steel guard, brass spacer (salvage from a wear bar out of a fish plant I think) The handle wood is stabilized maple burl. I wish I could get some more of that handle wood.

Well I know you can get curly maple in many shapes and sizes from woodcraft but the whole stabilizing part is a little more difficult. I don't know much about the process but I know it's basically impregnating wood with epoxy resin or something like that but you might be able to make something like this to do it yourself. http://www.knifeart.com/thevbycurmwi.html and as for the stabilizing medium, woodcraft has many of them by the gallons. I hop this was in some way helpful

Most  knife supply houises sell stabilized wood and in a natural spalt like yours or in dyed in may colors,,,most of them have on line catalogs with examples. I pay the extra for stabilized woods...its worth it.

What medium did you quench in?

Sorry for not answering the question sooner. I used 120 degree water, and yes it was nerve wracking.
