  1. That blade looks great! It says a lot about his skills and your ability to teach. The plunge cuts are clean and that can be a hard thing for new knife makers to get right so early.
  2. Looks very nice. Your leather work is beautiful as well.
  3. The blade looks good from what I can see and I agree that without knowing the steel it can be hard to suggest any tips. On the other photo you may want to invest in some supports on the forge so you can't tip over the fire pot could be dangerous and as a fireman I strongly recommend a sturdy base.
  4. I use the back of a blade as a striker when I have flint, and a solidly handled blade is essential in a lot of survival situations. Flint and other survival items can also be integrated into a sheath fairly easily without compromising the blade in any way. Just something to think about and my 2 cents.
  5. Gosh I can't think of a single bad thing I could say about this!! It's a gorgeous knife keep up the great work!
  6. Beautiful axe looks like it would be handy when opening an elk rib cage.
  7. GLooks great, cant wait to see it finished.
  8. Looks very nice I would be hard pressed to believe a "complete newbie" made it. Keep sharing the great work!
  9. I second that statement. The help on this site is great and by looking at great work like this I continue to be inspired and driven to make better and more advanced blades.
  10. Looks like another great knife. I am sure the owner will love it

  12. I like how you keep the forged look but you keep a professional look in the knives with well made handles and smooth blade profiles. Good job sir!!
  13. Looks good I like the wood handle on it.
  14. I must agree this is a great looking knife and sheath, very good job!!
  15. Here is a Rasp Bowie sold to a customer not long ago I thought I would share it with you guys the blade is 9 3/4 long and the knife is 13 3/4 overall. The handle is mule deer from here in Wyoming with a nickel silver gaurd home made mosaic pin and sheath.
  16. Here is the coclusion to a previous WIP on a maple and cable knife the sheath is hand stitched and tooled in house the mosaic pins are home made and the gaurd is nickel silver. The blade is 6" forged from 1" mainline from a 175 ton conventional crane that I worked with. The only thing I amwaiting on are some new stencils for the touchark. Let me now what yall think Thanks for looking
  17. If you are in Bakersfield my old home town is Tehachapi California and my old smithing partner runs Iron bear forge there. He is a great guy look him up on Facebook under ironbearforge he will likely help ya out.
  18. I don't think it's ugly at all great work and clean plunge lines.
  19. so after hardening did you just leave some of the scale on the blade? it appears to have a glaze in the photos that looks interesting. The blade looks good bye the way!
  20. I made this knife a few weeks ago as a way to break the routine and it came out nice the blade is 6 1/4 long the OAL is 13" I believe. The leather is hand tooled by me as well as the mosaic pins the gaurd is nickel silver the handle is a mule deer I shot a few years back stabalized with super glue.
  21. Here are a few photos of the cable and maple knife ive been working on lately, so far the knife is turning out very well the cable welded nicely with no inclusions! this is also the first time I have stabalized wood in house and it also is turning out well. Now the photos the first one is of the second weld series being done the second is the blade as forged the third is after etch and the fourth is the test fit for the wood and gaurd I will share some better pics when its all done. Let me know what you guys think I always enjoy the input.
