And those same people complain that all their kids want to do is stay inside and play video games, watch TV or type on the computer!
Funny how the admin types are always the ones who think there`s something inherently wrong with EVER getting your hands dirty with anything worse than ink.
HEY!Anybody ever do a risk assessment on paper cuts? :)

From what I`ve seen the ecomomy has been most harsh on the white collar workers and they are the ones up here who are out of work the longest.
We`re seeing a lot of folks with masters degrees working retail sales these days. Many times those with just HS diplomas who have more experience are even getting jobs in retail before them.

Hand skills baby!If you`ve got `em you can always find a way to make a buck!

When I was working in the deep Anadarko Basin, (OK), we had a time when they went to spray a load of pipe with corrosion inhibitor---in a 30 mph wind with lots of dust and didn't bother to tell us wha

You pick up the kids from school with dirt smeared on face, lines from goggles embedded into your forehead, and scale covered steel toe caps... when all the other mothers are dressed smartly :o

Yep! That's me!

You know you've been forging when you get banned from a spa for leaving a trail of rust when swimming.

Never been banned from a swimming hole for being head to toe grease and grime...just told to shower first before they would let me in! I haven't forged enough in a day to leave rust marks...yet.

Do we know eachother? That happened to me this morning, and I was just about to post that very thing.

Hey you two! I'm thinking I may have to redo the text thingy in my Avatar whatever that's called. Hot texturing your hand falls directly into the realm of the Blacksmith's Moto I wrote.

"Carpe Terminus Frigidus."

Don't make me explain it or I'll come down there and install you in a padded room! <_<

Errr.. Cold fish are deadly?

Love it - Seize the cold end!

That NEEDS to be a T-shirt! (not to doubt you though but I'd run it past a real latin scholar first as I know how weird the language can be---How many Romans????)

When your dog that is afraid of guns and thunder doesn't even wake up when you run the power hammer!

When your wife demands you eat something and you ask her to watch out the window to make sure nothing is on fire that shouldn't be.

when she yelled for dinner I dropped a large hot piece into a pile o dry leaves.... I work outside for those of you who don't know... .I put them out... but it never hurts to be sure...

Or you have set your dog on fire during forgewelding big billets... The old dog would lay on a carpet at the far end of the shop.. till that day.. then she would just poke her head through the door... and watch...

Don't you just hate the smell of singed dog! Never try to seize the flaming end of a hot dog , they bite
Dachshund sleep in a log, forest fire, hot dog! :P

Are you saying.
Carpo igneus terminus canis non?

In case any of you think I actually speak latin, I'd like to offer you the chance to buy my interest in a really NICE bridge!

Yeah okay, so here's the translator I'm playing with right now. http://www.translation-guide.com/free_online_translators.php?from=English&to=Latin

Truth is my inspiration for coming up with the Blacksmith's Moto came from the signoff of an IFI member who has, "Carpe malleus" as his tagline. I was thinking I do NOT want to grab the malleable end of a piece of iron! What he's saying is akin to ," strike while the iron is hot." More literally something like do it while it's soft. Carpe can mean a lot of things just like seize can and the translator offers lots of options for seize, grab, take, etc.

Also, I've been hooked on dinosaurs since I was maybe 8 and paleontology in general since I was maybe 13 so I've picked up an odd assortment of latin and greek. It's fun to casually drift into latin when talking to clean folk who think I gotta be slow to be a blacksmith. Yeah, I know, I'm BAD. Just ask Deb. :P

I used an online latin-english translator when I wrote it a while ago. The "T" shirt thing is in the works. Or will be when I let Glenn out of the padded room, he actually called me and asked what the heck I was saying this morning. Oh wait a second, I think he's comfortable in there! This might take a while darn it.

Padded walls? More like multiple whiteboards. (grin).
Working on it now.

If there is anyone out there that can do nice line work, let me know, I am looking for a good artist.

Wow, you got out of there quick! Must be something about whiteboards I don't know, you're still grinning.

I'm no good at even pretending to be an artist, all my lines line up or sideways and that's about my limit.

Frosty the Lucky.

There are 2 whiteboards at my desk, another in the shop. They are not used for permanent information, but are used for all sorts of things, from problem solving, drawings, lists, quick notes, etc. The best part is you can now record the spin-off ideas, or just weird ideas, that get lost because they were not written down. At the end of the day remember to put the good stuff into your shop notebook or binder.

Here Frosty
"battuo fervens finis"

I hope I conjugated that properly
Phil

Geeze Phil, how you conjugate is in the TMI catagory as far as I'm concerned! Still, you got "battuo fervens finis" to translate to "to beat the glowing red end" and I'm not sure how fervens = "Hot" got changed to glowing red. THAT my friend is some darned impressive conjugation!

Uh. . . I need a shower now.
Frosty the Felicis

Aren't your's Phil?

"Carpe Terminus Frigidus."

It might better be capisso frigus finis - grasp the cold end.
